I've been nose-deep in scale builds for years now, but before that I was a Comp Crawler guy (mostly Supers) and I competed most prolifically with a rig I named Alf. Alf started as the first torsion frame Clod Buster (what went on to be the Pimp Cane) and was a collaborative effort between Heavy, Myself and SycoRc. Alf went threw three phases back then, the first was a torsion frame using two long 1/4" aluminum rods that were tig'd together, the second was a solid frame with no articulation, with the last being Alf 3 (pictured below).

When I got back into competing I built the Super Scrambler as a Class 3 / TTC rig, went to Nationals in 2012 and learned a lot. The Scrambler was powerful and tough as nails, but it also weighed a lot and was basically an SCX-10 on 2.2's.

I've been on a nostalgia kick lately, so I thought it would be fun to bring the Alf name back, and maybe some of the character as well. I knew it had to be a F-350, so I started that and built the concept around that using what I've learned over the years. This will be a quick build (I started back in February), as I need to have it running for National's in a few weeks.

Getting Closer, It's taken a work to get this build done right due to the crazy - long wheelbase. We'll see how it performs!

I'm digging old school thoughts behind this build.
Let me know if you want to hit up one the spots, can throw down course and do a shake down run. I can bring Elmo out.

Thanks man! I'd love too after Nat's - I'll probably be working on this down to the wire haha

You going to cover the body in brown fur like the sport bike guys did in the late 90's/early 2000's?

Very nice rig!!

Thank you!! "thumbsup"

It's a runner now. I need to finish the paint, interior, interior cage, and headache rack before I fly out to Nationals Thursday. :ror:

Fun story - the Toyzuki T-Case only has two gears so I had to reverse the timing on the motor. I think you can do it with the O.G. Pullers but I didn't have time to do the research so I replaced it with a Holmes Team 500 crawl I had laying around.

Looking good buddy, hope you get all your rig done in time. Lol

Good luck at the comp!"thumbsup"

Thanks man! It will be weird not having you at Nationals. "thumbsup"

Man, everyone's cutting it close this year. Cool ideas in this build.....gonna be a long bitch. See ya Thursday!

Thanks! I'll get it done, I think the wheelbase is 16"ish. I just wanted to build something a little different.

Nice an low Cg, can I drive it lol

Haha I tried! I would love for you to drive it - you can tell me what I did wrong. :ror:

nice! got my start on torsion supers as well. had a cane, and a CPE claw (mono leaf spring)
these kids today dont know nothin bout 40 series moabs

That thing is sick. Can't wait to see that run. Should be a good time

Thanks! Didn't do very well - I think it was a combination of really bad shock / foam tuning, and that all of my scale points were really heavy and high up. With all the scale points the lexan ends up weighing more than a Tamiya F-350. Without the body it kicks ass - with the body it just falls over a lot. :ror:

I have learned many lessons.

I still call that the golden age. I'm rebuilding one or both of the Alf's this summer from frames I've kept. Clod stuff is so cheap now! :ror:

So they do know bout them 40s?

I don't know about them - but I have a plastic tub full of 40's in my garage. :ror:

I learned a lot down there as well. I had my truck set up for up here. I really need to maximize my points total and max out for sure. Also need to install a winch so since I have been back I have ripped apart my class 3 and a whole new chassis is in the works. Needed more room for a servo winch and full interior and then maybe we will be good to go again in a week or so. It was a big eye opener for myself as I have never comped outside our club. The stuff I learned is so valuable

Yeah, if you don't have max points, and / or get at DNF you're basically out of contention. :ror: Gotta learn somehow! "thumbsup"

A few pics from Nats:

My wife was super cool and basically built the interior and painted the drivers and interior for me the night before I flew out. Meanwhile I screwed up the interior cage which kept me from hitting the full 50pts and basically accomplished nothing of value. :ror:

From concourse. Check out how much lower MG200's buggy is (a few rigs down). I have height problems. :ror:

Im pretty used to running limiters, I tried internal springs on this one and they require a decent anount of tuning to the internal spring to work well. I should have also ran heavier oil.
