1/24 HobbyPlus CR-24 & new 1/18th scale!!

Re: 1/24 HobbyPlus CR-24 & new 1/18th scale!!

Hobby Plus upgraded electronics combo! https://www.asiatees.com/display?id=158638&brand=Hobby Plus&model=CR24 &pid=1

Any updates on the 1/18 HobbyPlus? Very interesting...

Are any of the various 1/24 micro axles easy to convert into a 6x6 middle pass thru axle by using two pinion input covers or two rear axle halves like the old scx10’s? Extending a worm gear shaft seems like a pain, ring/pinions are more realistic anyways.

After two months, the CR24's I ordered have finally arrived. I really thought I could use this Pajero body from a Fujimi kit in my stash - maybe with a bit of work... either the Fujimi is too small or the CR24 is a tad too big for a 1/24?

There is no standard 1/24 Wheelbase.
Real cars come in various Wheelbase. When something is 1/24th of a 1:1 you'll have many different wheel bases.
You can shorten the links by cutting them and sleeving them with tube

You're right and I do understand this. Just that the real land rover defender 90 wheelbase is 93-inches (2362 mm), whilst the NJ Pajero LWB is actually longer at 2725mm. Once upon a time I used to own both vehicles ;-)... tis why I was hoping i could swop bodies. If anything i expected the Pajero body to be a tad too long, not the other way round.

Unless they based the chassis on a Landy 110? ...but then the body should have four doors...

No biggie though - as mentioned a 1/20 scale should fit better... already have my eyes on a hilux...

edit: oh btw, not really a crawler, but a new interesting 1/24 chassis: Tamiya 1/24 Lunch Box Mini

I just pre-ordered the blue Scout!! "thumbsup"

I wanted the LC-80 body but it only has lights in the bumpers. Also the grill on the LC-80 is a decal. The scout and the pickup have hard plastic grills and taillights with LEDs and the pickup also has a roof light bar.

GO!

Re: 1/24 HobbyPlus CR-24 & new 1/18th scale!!

My 1st impressions of the CR-18 are flimsy and somewhat cheesy. I'm really kind of disappointed, but I am a picky consumer. The steering is sloppy and has the worst bump steer of any truck Ive owned. I like slow, this is not slow enough, and like all micros needs to be geared down. The radio seemed cheesy at first because its small and toy-like and it takes AAA batteries. The tires are soft and grippy though. I was so disenchanted after the first few minutes of battery that I put it away and came in the hose to write this.

I was hoping it would rival the Panda Hobby Tetra 1 but the CR-18 doesn't even com close in stoutness, or overall sense of quality. Unfortunately Panda Hobby has fallen off the radar. Maybe aftermarket support will offer things for the CR-18 to make it worth while. Even the 1/24 RGT Adventurer seems more robust. It seems as if the CR-18 uses parts that should be on the 1/24 trucks.

My overall opinion is: Underwhelming and no big deal. Kind of a disappointment. Obviously your opinions will vary.

Re: 1/24 HobbyPlus CR-24 & new 1/18th scale!!

Unfortunately my pre-order is still stuck in customs.
I think you may have gotten your hopes up that it's a crawler, they have said they are going for a 1/18 scale trail truck and It's been known that it's an upgraded 1/24 CR-24. Same gearing, widened axles, new chassis, longer wheelbase, 88t motor from the upgrade kit, metal U joints, upgraded ESC ECT.
I'm just expecting it to be a bigger upgraded version of what I have so I may have less expectations. Try a 9t pinion and a Barrage 70t spur for an easy bolt on gear down. If you don't want to make anything an RC4WD motor should bold up and get you to 90-95+ turn, or you can order gamys 130 motor mount from shapeways

No. I had hoped it would be another 1/18 with quality as good or better than the Panda Hobby Tetra. I really did. I assumed the CR-18 gearbox would need attention like all micros so that was not surprising to me.

What is surprising is the CR-18 steering is a complete joke. They stretched the 1/24 CR but it is not an upgrade at all IMO. They didn't "scale-up" any of the plastic parts proportionally to 1/18 so everything seems flimsy. The link arms are soft and bend (seriously? flexible links?). A good modeler can fix all of this but out of the box it's meh.

That being said, I'll probably order another one, the pickup this time ;-)

Re: 1/24 HobbyPlus CR-24 & new 1/18th scale!!

Mine showed up today.
I grabbed the "Convoy" Chevy style pickup and the "Rushmore" International Scout.
I did like the LC80 Land cruiser, but even though it was a few dollars cheaper it didn't have a 3D grill and was only picking up 2.

Firstly I'll say these both look pretty good, but the Convoy pickup probably looks the best in my opinion. The chrome wheels and roll bar with light buckets give it that little extra over the Rushmore.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this being some of the worst bump steer I've experienced.
As far as the links bending and flexing they seem to flex as much as the Barrage/RGT, CR-24, and even my scx24
The drag link is definitely a little longer than the CR-24. The steering link/bar is definitely thicker and more beefy than the CR-24.
As we've known the drive shafts have the metal u joints included.
The drive shafts, links, and possibly other plastics have been upgraded to fiber reinforced.

The tires are great and the same height and width as the SCX24 nittos, but for the smaller than 1.0" wheel used on the Barrage/RGT ,cr-24
Interestingly all the models have different tires in the same size.

I like how flat the underside is and the angle of the driveshafts and lower links. The extra holes in the shock hoops for tuning shocks is a nice touch. Even with the 88t motor I also feel it's not slow enough for a crawler, but it is intended to be a trail trail truck so I'll just gear or down and swap in a high turn motor. The controller is the same as the CR-24 and I don't mind it. It's small and comes apart for traveling.
Also, even though it's a small detail the 4 way wrench is probably the best I've seen come with a RTR micro

I'm disappointed in the steering, but otherwise it's what I expected a longer wider CR-24 with some upgrades. At half the price of a RC4WD mini Gelande it's not too bad for a trail truck.

Yeah I think the Convoy pickup is the best bang for the buck on these. It looks like it even has bigger tires...?

That's just casting flash holding it up. They seem to be the same size

Re: 1/24 HobbyPlus CR-24 & new 1/18th scale!!

I'm looking to pick up the CR-18 and would like to get a couple spare batteries but can't seem to find a shop that sells them separately. Does anyone where to get the spare batteries? Thanks.
