1/24 HobbyPlus CR-24 & new 1/18th scale!!

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

Yeah, the five wire servo is a bummer, but so far it hasn't been terrible. I think I'll grab a spare or two with my next order. They're cheap enough.

5 wire servo??? I have 2 of the Defender Body versions purchased from AsiaTees and both are standard 3 wire. Do you have a picture of your electronics? Seems like they may have more than one version of electronics

Well damn, I'm not sure how I didn't see that. I must have been thinking of my Carisma. Luckily I have plenty of spare better electronics anyway.

I don't belong to a pic host and finally gave up trying to upload a pic.
I was trying register but there were so many redirects and pop ups I finally gave up.

But yeah. Its a 5 wire. Funny how I missed that.

I looked at my old pictures. I can't believe I didn't notice.

Just got my blue jeep CR24 (Aliexpress) and it's five wire.

That said, who's upgraded the ESC, receiver and servo with a more robust set? [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16] I'm definitely not planning to keep this stock for long. I'll do it just to get a proper 3wire servo in there.

The electronics aren't great, but not bad compared to most RTR micros. I still can't believe I forgot about the five wire servo after owning two and tearing one apart and putting it back together. I had to look at the first pictures I took and posted to even verify it lol

Do you recall what brand they are? I see a few options online, but don't know if small gears like this have different pitch sizes or what. I'm used to 1/10 scale crawlers. LOL

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

0.3 mod pitch with a 1.5mm bore for the motor shaft. No specific brands. Anything metal will do, brass is the most common.
You can find them on eBay or anywhere that specializes in older brushed micro Helis. I recommend no smaller than 9t for durability. I've seen 8t metal pinions break. If 8t is all you find get a spare to be safe IMO.

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

I picked up one of these CR-24's recently and have been having a blast with it. It's surprisingly capable for what it is.

One nice feature I noticed is the spare micro jst connector on the esc that outputs ~ 4v. I'm using it to power a cheap 25mw all-in-one camera/vtx unit for FPV duty. I conformal coated the camera and used rain-x on the lens, so I could make use of the waterproof features of this truck. It's fun to drive around the backyard in the rain while sitting indoors.

My only con, as others have mentioned, is the servo. This definitely could use a servo upgrade, but it will be tough to find a good 5-wire servo that fits.

I had a lot of fun with the CR-24 today. I was able to get some nice trail runs in my backyard in between the rain showers in so-cal today.
This thing is surprisingly capable for what it is.

Here's the DVR recording from today. This was taken with a modified 720p camera from a toy drone. Be warned, the video is very long, but it does show how capable this little crawler is.

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

Good idea mounting a better quality cam for recording your "crawls" in 720P. I just went with the AIO solution, and when I record, it's just with the terrible built-in DVR on my Fatsharks. So needless to say, I probably won't be posting any footage. But I do enjoy driving mine via FPV.

I finally placed my order for one last night, so I can finally join this club.
