Tribute to my Dad's 79 F100 featuring Banzai

Raises hand Ew Ew its, its that thing I cant talk about, lol

Haha yup!"thumbsup"
I made humboldtef sign a non disclosure agreement at proline by the fire lol

But since 2mtech is getting all in a tizzy over surprises in everyone's threads, I will reveal what I ordered for my 39th birthday last night...

Ready?

PHASE 2!!!

So there it is! Finally getting a 313 wheelbase 8 inch wide body so the truck will be much more capable and (1.9) tires will be inside the fenders.
It comes with the bed topper so that's a plus.
Lots of rewoeking though. I need to fix the tailights, mirrors, see what I can do about the grill being too flat and boxy, remove the rear shock box on the bed floor, extend the bed (and topper) to longbed...
annnnd
I went to the home page after I ordered...
He now makes a BUNCH of f body options including a supercab longbed. Wish I could have opted for a single cab longed (camper special?) With topper.
But like I said, I have work to do on this but it's a great base.

One huge thing I plan to do is make molds of the original pieces before assembly and pour resin recasts. That way I can mess with it and not worry about destroying a 3D printed body well into.the triple digits. And hopefully also keep me from worrying about PLA body melting on a hot California summer day.

So... Off I go to learn how to recast stuff in resin using silicone molds!

See? Doesn't it feel ever so much better to have that off your chest, tizzy notwithstanding?? lol.

That's gonna be awesome though! Can't wait to see how you work this one out! :-)

Oh, and happy birthday!

Yeah Happy belated birthday! That sure is a sweet looking body, is that your actual body in the picture or just a picture of one?

Good luck with the molds and mods. will this be going on a new chassis or the current build?

Haha yes Casey... Just... Yes lol

And thanks for the belated b day wishes!

To really answer the questions:
Not my body it's a pic from the jk3d website where I bought it.
http://m.jk3drc.com/product/1979-f-150-wheelbase-313mm/31/category/30/display/1/
Prints in 5-10 days and ships from South Korea so... 2 weeks maybe? Arrives in pieces so it will be easier to recast.
As for chassis... I might run it on the ascender for abit but uh... Well I gotta keep something up my sleeve ;)
Lets just say I didnt buy scale jackstands for nothing.
Think "Tim Taylor from home improvement" ;)

** like this (I just hope it doesnt take 5 seasons to built lol)

Also added some scale stuff next to the backyard rock pile. The well is a Gatorade bottle with the top cut off and silicone holding the rocks to it.

And yes I got the ol girl running :D

I believe mgputer drove a 1:1 years back. It’s funny how Ford basically flipped the current grill of the day upside down to design that one.

The body you have printed is really nicely designed. Sure the grill may be a bit flat, but the body in the video has good looking proportions. Nice find.

I owned a 76 highboy 4x4 for ten years. Great truck. It would be fun to have a replica, but this level of scaling is off my charts - I just want to run crawlers. :)

Happy birthday youngster!!

Lol I was right! I knew with your 70 series Ford love that is what you were getting. That thing looks fantastic! Can't wait to see the project start!

Who was the guy that likes the 76?[emoji12]

Haha thanks fellas!
Yeah I forgot who had the 76. Chris I remember your highboy stories, those are AWESOME and I think my dad used to tell me he wished he had a highboy, or a 250 at least.
The 79 supercab on the same site looks REALLY cool. If I had the dough I would have bought both and used the supercab bed on the regular cab, or maybe even build up both as I have been kicking around the idea of getting a 75 supercab (because ca smog exempt) so my whole family will fit and it would be my very own "dad rig" as my son and I have been calling my tinytire rc. Would be nice to have a work truck that could easily haul a camper and not worry about scratching it... Maybe someday.

Anyway... I will just cast the parts and make a bed extension myself. Then cast that again when its done? I know I know. A copy of a copy... Ive seen multiplicity with Michael keaton. Hilarious go see it if you haven't. Sorry... Yeah so I need to learn how to cast. Been curious as lots of action figure customizers use it to make copies of parts they make. That's how I will practice. Got tons of spare figures.

Well happy fathers day gang!
Just got a gopro woo!
*and a new dremel!

The Highboys of that era are one of if not the sexiest pickups of all time.

Sanity check: is the lure of highboy, other than obviously being... Higher... Because of the front leaf suspension vs. the std f series being radius arm?
I should read up on that... Might need to consider that for the next chassis I build... ;)

They were before my time, but I remember staring at them as a youngster. My uncle was a farmer and he had a pretty killer pickup collection. While most of them were white, he clearly liked Ford with a couple Dodge sprinkled in. The highboy was always my favourite. It just looks so good in a dark blue.

The highboys were F250’s

This gets into the suspension that, I suppose, defined them.

Re: Tribute to my Dad's 79 F-150 RANGER LARIAT

I'm pretty sure you are correct about the high boys. My dads was a 77 and had leaf front. We had a 74 before that and it was radius arm standard.

But the high boys were 3/4 ton not 150s.

Smog beat me to it lol

Lol you've been Frank'd!!! Hahaha!

But yeah thanks fellas. I was just reading this on Wikipedia...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_F-Series_(sixth_generation)
"The term "Highboy" is an enthusiast name only given to 67-77.5 F250 4x4's, this included both standard and crew cab pickups. There is an incorrect, albeit common, belief that "highboy" was a package available on any 73-79 Ford pickup.

The general definition of a Highboy: 1967-1977.5 Ford F-250 4x4 Regular Cab or Crew Cab light duty pick-up truck with a narrow frame and divorced transfer case.

The term "Highboy" got its name from sitting higher from the factory than other Ford pick-up trucks. The divorced transfer case (either Dana 24, NP203, or NP205) caused the front end to be higher, so the rear-end had 4" lift blocks under the leaf springs to match the same height as the front. In mid-1977 Ford switched to married transfer cases for the pick-ups. People then started referring to the 1973-1977.5 divorced transfer case trucks as Highboys and the 1977.5-1979 married transfer case trucks as Lowboys. Since the previous 1967-1972 generation trucks were essentially the same as the 73-77.5 trucks, they have been included in the Highboy definition.

That being said there are also very specific differences that separate 67-77.5 Highboys from Non-Highboys.

Engines: 1V denotes a 1-barrel carburetor 2V denotes a 2-barrel carburetor 240 1V Six (1967-1974) 300 1V Six (1967-1977.5) 351M 2V V-8 (1977) 352 2V V-8 (1967) 360 2V V-8 (1968-1976) 400 2V V-8 (1977)

Frames: All Highboys, like the F-350, have a narrow frame that is 33.5 inches wide. As well as being narrower than other frames, all Highboy frames received an extra front crossmember under the bumper. It is the only difference between Highboy frames and 67-72 F-350 frames. Highboy frames were different from other F-series frames and thus required a different bed than other F-series trucks.

The Highboy is significant as the most desirable factory 4x4 of its era due to its stout frame, increased height compared to other light-duty pickup trucks, and divorced transfer case. Chrysler and GM did not have a counterpart. The Highboy is also historically significant as the basis of the first monster truck: Bigfoot 1."

Wow that's a lot of text lol
So yeah now I think I want to try NOT to make it a highboy. Just wouldnt be faithful to my pops truck. And would be inaccurate anyway since highboys stopped in 77.5.
Dont want to have the ford purists at my house with torches and pitchforks lol
So with that info I know how NOT to build it lol
Now I just need to figure out the difference between f series front ends with radius arm coil spring, and flat leaf. My guess is f150 had coils and 250s had leaf.

Sidenote: after all that reading I really want a 1:1 F250 camper special supercab heheh
But putting 79 bits on a 75 could get me back on the torches and pitchforks list...

I think that you are correct that the f250 was leaf sprung in the front.
