nice! i love spreading this hobby. especially when we get the kiddos involved, ensures survival of the hobby for the next generation!
my son had Walmart RC's too. when he tried his grandpa's yeti... well he wasn't ready for that kind of speed, whisky throttled a huge boulder at full boil. yeti was fine but my wallet cried out in fear lol and he got a barrage with the throttle trim turned waaaay down haha
he does fine now. almost ready for a better (read: ascender) rig of his own

***aaannnnnd i think i just found where adam savage got the idea...

those guys at the RPF are AMAZING.
anyway back to the truck in question here...
not much of an update. still waiting for the molotow chrome to fully cure on the grill and bumper. i guess i should have realized its not acrylic. ironically i just stumbled across a youtube vid on adam savage's channel where he found a good clear coat for chrome paint that wont turn it grey. YIKES! good thing i didn't hit my grill with Tamiya clear!!! i think for now i will just carry the pen with me for trail touch ups. i have accepted the fact it could very well get destroyed at proline. but i can probably get a new one from RC nerds if its really bad.
now the only thing holding me up, is not having a dremel to fine-sand the lexan hole for the grill.
framing up some doors in my house this weekend, might "accidentally" buy a new dremel at home depot when we go for door supplies.
after the grill gets put in, i need to get busy on some lights!
just gonna toss a 4" bar on my son's barrage. but my truck needs a custom made set, i think.
trying to find pre-fabbed kits with the right number, size, and color of LEDs has turned up bupkis.
so there is an electronics store near the home depot... you know where this is going lol
2x 5mm soft white
2x 3mm orange/amber
2x 3mm red
that's it. not doing the side trim lights this time around. but if i did, i would use 2 red and 2 amber SMD style.
might try to just run them on a 3.7v 18650 litium ion (vape battery) velcro'd inside the body so i don't have to worry about a connection between the body and chassis.
i don't need a ton of juice to run 6 lights, no controller since I'm not getting fancy with brake lights (yet?).
fronts will be cake since the RC Nerds grill is already set to go with 5 and 3mm holes.
rear i will probably use axial light buckets (the small oval shaped rock lights) glued behind the taillights with shoegoo.
no light bars on this ferd. trying to stay period correct. if in the future i really think it needs more light, maybe i will hide something inside the grill. even then, probably period correct KC Highlites or something to that effect.
sorry, no neat pictures this time
