Tribute to my Dad's 79 F100 featuring Banzai

Every time I look at your thread it makes me want to build a 70s Ford like my Dad had. Ours was a 1977 blue 4x4 . I always wanted it for my first truck but due to having 7 of us he sold it to get a Aerostar van. Looked like this one but it wasn't a short box and he had 33" mud tires on it. My favorite memory of it was a big snow storm in like 88 and we were on our way deer hunting and he was plowing through drifts as high as the hood. There was a bunch of people stuck in the road with their trucks and a tractor stuck in the road that was trying to pull the trucks out. We stopped to see if they needed any help and said no but we should turn around as we would not make it. My old man dumped the clutch in 3rd and away we went down the road through the snow never getting stuck or even slowing down the old Ford. Ah the good ol days.

Sweet ride. The 77 Ford Highboy might be the nicest looking pickup ever made. I am amazed your dad let that go, clearly he was a dedicated family man:ror:

He was. To bad my mom left him a year later leaving us kids with him. But he still got to see it everyday because he sold it to a guy he worked with in a diesel repair shop. The guy worked in the body shop so he repainted it and put some nice wheels on it. I guess that's like being able to see your Exe every day with someone else lol. He still to this day regrets selling it.

Cool story, love hearing that kind of "hero truck" stuff. At least he knows where it went. I have no idea where my pops 79 went :(

I have been teasing myself looking at 79 supercab f250s for sale... like dad rig 2.0: bigger and better.

I do the same thing now and again. My friends neighbor has a completely restored 68 and 77. He's thinking of selling the 77. If he does I'm buying it. Identical color to my dads, 400 engine 4 spd and dual exhaust. Beautiful truck.

Had a cool convo a couple weeks ago with the toyota shuttle driver when my scion frs was in for an oil change.
She loved old fords too, and when i told her about my pops 79 and i would like to get one again, she said the 75 and older are more popular in cali because no smog laws, so a 79 might be easy to find but a pain to get it smogged.
Smart lady.

So with that in mind i was thinking yesterday... could i get a 75 frame and put a 79 cab and bed on it? I have no idea how that works, legality wise.

And yes im still on staycation. Just got done ripping up the beach with my yeti!
Pic later, signal pretty weak out here.

*also, pretty sure my reaction 5000mah 3S hardpack for my yeti is toast. Its been plugged in to the esc for over 4 months. Bad shinchu! Bad! Had to use the 4000mah from the ascender.
Any hope of reviving it somehow? Plugged it into my venom charger and it just sat there with all zeros everywhere. Ooops...

Its opposite. It goes off the title so you could just get a 75 and put the 79 front clip on and you would be set.

I had a buddy with a couple of the older ford pickups...I think he sold one but may still have one. Could inquire if you're serious.

But isnt there a vin plate on the firewall, and not matching the two vin stamps on the frame seems... not legal?
CA law says if the vehicle is 75 or older, no smog. How do i prove that if they look to see if my vin matches registration, vin on the cab would indicate 79 and not smog exempt... ehhhh this could go way off topic lol maybe i research a bit and start a thread in the 1:1 section.

Thanks!
*and it doesnt look good for my 5000mah. Not sure what voltage its at, if any at all and im reading the closer it gets to zero volts, the more borked it is.
A $50 lesson there. Woopsie.
I could try restoring it over 3 volts with a nimh charger, but thats scary stuff.

Trickle charge at 0.1amp on nimh setting, babysit it. When it gets up to decent charge, then switch to lipo balance charge. This usually saves them, it's not puffed is it?

Yes.

Yeah Thanks nate, thats pretty much what i read, and no its not puffed out of the hard case. My father in laws did, not sure how.

Now excuse me while i search for 75 and under supercabs lol

Oh yeah and here is a thing

She looks made for tearing up the beach. You must have considered picking up some sand paddles

Yeah actually that would hve been cool but i brought it down to the firm sand and did full speed powerslides with rooster tails and no loss of power... this thing seriuosly is made to shred the beach! Without paddles was more fun for the high speed drifting

Ok i we are back from a short but relaxing staycation.
Mrs shinchu was all set to get you all some vid of the yeti shredding the beach, but the drive shaft screw came loose and shaft popped off. Luckily it didnt fall off completely.

Anyway, so as not to derail my own thread any further with yeti stuff, i did a thing today!

Yeah do it! I love 3d printed stuff now and cant wait to get more! But, like any paint job, its all in the prep! Lots of sanding and priming and sanding and priming... and the molotow pen... NEATO!!!

Not much happened since the last pic. Got another coat of chrome on everything, giving it a couple days to cure before i see what clear gloss does to it.
Oh i started on the mirrors too. Just happen to have some random bag of m2 hardware to put them together.

I really need to start putting together a light kit...
I think it will all be contained in the body, including an 18650 battery at 3.7v. Should be plenty to run basic headlights, grill lights, tailights. All will be on full time, maybe a resistor to dim them a bit, headlights will be full power in warm white to mimic old halogens.
Nothing fancy, for now...

Oh and my dremel died this weekend :( made a thread in the tools section.
Really bummed about that. Loved that little guy.

*one more thing, glad to report the yeti is back up and running on the 5000mah restored, thanks to natedog for the trick!
And i have an idea for its next body.
More on that in another thread, later.

Armature fry or is it just the brushes? I have had the same one for 17 years and I think I would be sad if mine died too.

I cant tell you exactly. All i know is the magic smoke escaped in a crackley poof.
Thats what i get for cutting drywall trim with a dremel... :(

Mirrors are almost done...

Need a new dremel to carve out the grill area of the lexan. Too scary with just exacto and curved body scissors.

*well, sometimes you just gotta go "EFF IT." "thumbsup"
