Car stereo help

I need a new sub for my Cadillac. I am going to be redoing the entire truck and have it planned out to run a single 12" sub.

To fit best the speaker will face the rear of the car, and I will have a port on the opposite side that goes to the inside of the car.

I am powering the system with an older Rockford Fosgate BD1000a1, it's a single channel amp that'll run all day at 4ohms 500 watts, 2ohms 1000watts, and will handle but heat up at 1 ohm and 2000watts.

I listen to everything from Johnny Cash, to Snoop Dogg, to Korn, I don't need Magic Mike type bass, but I like to feel my music.

I have some 4 1/4" dash speakers, and 6x9's in the rear package tray, the 6x9's are powered by a punch 160.

I have been out of car audio for a while so I have no idea what subs are good right now. I would like to keep the price under $250 MAX but would prefer lower than that.

What do you recommend?
 
i like Massive, they can be a little pricy but they are worth it, next to that rockford, and clarrion make a few good modles.

if you are listlening to a wide variety of music i would suggest a non ported box, it helps to keep the bass sharp and crisp, in the harder rock music u will actually hear the double kicks on the bass drum rather then just a rumbling coming from your sub
 
I went through a few of the cheaper subs before I went back to Rockford Fosgate. I went with the 12" T1 and loved it! It was a little more than $250 I believe though.....been a couple years ago.
 
I have always had good luck with Kicker Subs in the past. They offer alot of bang for the buck. Back in the day I always used RF subs and amps but that was a looonnngg time ago.
 
im a huge fan of the old kicker comps. or even the solo baric.

i had 2 kicker comps in a sealed box and 2 solo baric's in a sealed box (at different times) and they sounded wonderful

depends, the whole point of facing the box backward is..

sounds come in waves as we all know, the when your in the drives seat if the wave is at a "low" when it passes by you , you wont "feel" your music nor will the bass sound as kick ass , if you fall when the wave is at a high, thats when u get the big bass hits and really feel the music.

so if u face your box forward you are at a 50/50 of landing in a low, face it backwards your at 50/50 as well, so by spinning the box around (if forwards sounds like ass) chances are when the sounds reverbs off the trunk and comes back to you up front you wont fall in the low . the same box in the same trunk with the same amp can sounds exactly the same facing forwards and backwards, or compltly different.


porting the box , also knowen as band bypass. lets the sub move back and forth freely with out building any pressure inside the box, this is great if you want really low rumbling bass thats nothing more then loud. when the box is sealed the box with have + and - pressure (depending on if the sub is moving forward or back) this effect will lemmet the movement of the sub, your bass wont be as low, but it will sound alot cleaner and crisper
 
The box is going to be facing backwards because if it were facing forwards it would be pretty much up against the rear seat in the car, sealed on all sides.

Nice! I bought mine not too long after the came out I believe. If I am not mistaken, I paid right around $300 for it. This was the only one I have had lately that was high quality but it sounded so much more clear and crisp compared to the others I had including the cheaper punch series.
 
I read Cadillac, and going through the truck... I rode in it before, it rode differant from your truck?:razz:

havent had a problem with mine, Ive worked in the car audio industry and havent seen many problems with the fosgate line. another line to check out is the jl audio its pricey but sounds great"thumbsup"

dont worry about over powering the sub as your amp can always be turned down, and more subs get blown by being under powered;-)
