You kids have it made!

Find something that works and stick to it. I have a 2 yr old niece. Here parents tell her to do things till they are blue in the face and nothing...why...cause they dont follow through. "Stop that or you are going to get it..." "If you dont share I am going to take it away" but nothing. Everyone in the family will tell you that they got no control, but ....guess who she listens to...ME, and it is very simple I dont beat her or even hit her at all. I make her stop by picking her up and taking here to a room that no one is in without any of here toys and I hold her sitting in front of me and talk to her. I dont leave that room for at least 5 minutes and I make sure after she leaves the first thing she does is apolagize to who ever it was she was being mean to or who ever was being effected by her. When I am around and she is miss behaving all I have to do is stand up and she stops. BUt is she affraid of me..no...she will run to me and give me a hug...she respects me, thats what kids need boundres and someone to respect. Now I am not saying that exact thing will work with each kid, but each kid has something that will work, you just have to find it.....and most importantly...STICK TO IT AND DONT BACK DOWN.

And on a lighter note........LEGOS rule. I am alittle younger than some and only some what remeber frogger and pong and such, but I always played with legos, and not the fancy crap now-a-days that all the peices already look like something, and have all the speciality piece that make things easy to build. The good stuff back inn the day when all you had where blocks and wheels.....Legos ruled

Yeah till you wake up at 3:00 AM and step on them and gash your frickin foot open.I was the oldest and my little brother shared a room and he was a lego fanatic.

The stomper I remember most was a blue 57' chevy Nomad. Does anyone remember the stompers with the paddle wheels that floated on water?

The Nomad is the one I still have.

Got that one because one of my uncles loved Nomads...had a 1:1 blue/white one just like it.

When Lego started making diagonal pieces instead of just square blocks....man, was that a great day.

Remember when a Walkman played cassesttes?

Here's one from the Geezer Files: my dad came back from a trip to California and brought back this thing called a "skate-board," and it was literally a board, made of 3/4 inch wood, with narrow trucks and, get this....ceramic wheels! urethane skateboard wheels hadn't been invented yet. This was in 1974 or '75. I'm surprised that Hobie didn't kill me; it couldn't have been longer than 16" and maybe 6 wide. An evil-handling thing, but it made me King Sh!t of Turd Island.

I still have the red Bronco stomper with the sweet foam tires. Sits on top of my 60" wide screen that my 9 year old watches cartoon network on and plays Playstation and Game Cube (cause one console isnt enough).

I remember when we had to rent a VCR with the video because they were too expensive...Our first VCR was'nt a name brand, it came from JC Penney, and that was the brand...Remember the movie RAD???Wow I still love that movie...

Or can anyone remember the cartoon G-Force???I remember running home after school (which really was a mile up hill) just to see that show...

And finally favorite ATARI game is: TANK...:)Thanks for stroll down memory lane...

I've read all these and I'll tell you what I miss the most of everthing,
GOING FAWKING TRICK OR TREATING!

I remember the whole neighborhood would be filled with kids, now sh!t is so fawked up nobody lets kids out to go trick or treating. Between drugs, rape, kidnapping, poison, etc, etc, etc,........It's messed up..............

I remember the neighbor's cable TV with a control box with 30 pushbuttons, one for each channel, and a key to access the porn. Didn't take long to figure out how to make a key out of a paper clip

That's what that was for?...................... damn I knew there was a reason for the secrecy

i had a red nomad with a wheelie bar:flipoff:

You guys would die if you went to my parents house, all these toys you mention I still have in box's in my room, my parents just kept my room the same all these years until I finally get a house, I'm in the military and don't want to haul all that stuff around. I have a box full of stompers, my favorite was the ones with the rims that stuck out like a point so they would run on 2 wheels, and the military versions.
I musta spent a fortune playing PAC-MAN, Space Invaders, Tron, Paper Boy, and Double Dragon. As for skate board I had one with metal wheels like they had on roller skates, hmmm do they still make roller skates, lol.

As for bad kids I blame it on lack of upbringing, and the tard mentality they get from watching shows like jackass. How many videos on the net have you seen where kids are bashing each other in the head because they think it's funny, or they call a friend in a room and smash him, now he's all fawked up and they stand around laughing, stupid azz ****tards.......

I wasn't beat all the time, but I was told how I needed to behave and was made to do it. I worked and did chores and saved my money, when I wanted a new bike I had to pay for half of it, did I leave it in the yard in the rain, hell's no, why because I had to pay for half that fawker.

I wish that I could let my son go out an play in the yard unattened like I did as a kid, but nooooooooooo.........the fawking childmolesting mother Fawkers prevent that sh!t from happening, they should be shot in the fawkin head in public, i hope they pass that bill for the death penalty on rape and molestation.

But anyway's who remembers Green Machines?? Now we'll see people age come out, lol.

Oh what the hell was that Shiot inside of a stretch armstrong?
Or real fireworks, the kind that would blow up a mailbox?

I hear you Brock!:x These things are changes that are not very encouraging! I watch my son like a hawk when we are out at the park or out shopping. :? Pretty sad!:-(

On a brighter note, remember the Kick-N-Go? Now that was fun!

I had one of the original STOMPERS... the Brat. I still have my LEGO tho. When we were kids, my best friend and I swore we would never give them up. His are still in storage. We joked about being buried in a LEGO coffin, I still haven't given up on that on. LOL
Does anyone remember those giant Shogun warrior robots? I inherited mine from my cousin and thought it was the coolest thing.
Oh, and whats a green machine?

On the spanking thing.... Yea I got spanked....DIDNT like it but it was effective!!!!!

Without sidetracking too far from the Feel Good point of this thread...

Remember when
Disciplining(sorry for spelling) your kids was acceptable anywhere you went
you got the invitation to straighten up or go out to the car(haha never found out what happened with this one...Did anyone?)
it was "ok" (not good but accepted) for people to die in war
cartoons had violence tom and jerry/looney toones
harsh language in a movie was h#ll and B1tch

Oh yeah! stretch arm stong was so frickin awesome, and did anybody taste that stuff that came out of him that was all red and nasty. I admit to being a retard as a kid like when I tried to jump out of a tree with a rope and broke 4 ribs and got really bad wiplash. Now remember if you got hurt how your dad would call you a wimp and say walk it off or something stupid like that, then you think in your head " god dam it i have freakin whiplash and a rib sticking out of my F****** stomach".

A friend of mine had both the Green Machine AND the Red Barron. Man, those things were cool!! I always wanted one, but ended up getting a GI Joe Big Wheel instead (it did have a pair of guns and a sight on the handlebar!).

Hotwheels RULE ALL!!!! I have all but two of the original 12 cars that came out in '68. My cousin gave me a bunch of cars when I was 5 or so in a white paper bag. Those 10 cars, even in the condition they are in (quite played with) are worth about $500.

What about slot cars? Not these cheesy tracks that let your car go upside down and crap. The good ole' sets that were made by AFX and you had to be careful in the corners or you'd smack your dad's car into the wall! My father had an upstairs room that had an entire HO train and slot car layout, complete with fiberglass resin lake (that held water!), mountains with tunnels (and a little hole below so I could retreive the cars if they came off of the track). The whole layout was about 4' off of the floor. Killer stuff to watch as a kid.

Automan!!! God, I loved that show!! I SO wanted to have my own Cursor and be able to drive a car down the street at 300mph and take a 90 degree corner without slowing down. Anyone have that show on tape somewhere? I'd love to get a couple of episodes. And as far as I'm concerned, Friday nights at 8pm were unbeatable. I couldn't be peeled from our HUGE 20" TV while I was watching Knight Rider.

Now, concerning the youth of today. I agree that a lot of the attitude and lazy a$$ tendencies that most kids have these days is a direct reflection on their parents. The parents use the TV as a babysitter and don't take the TIME to teach their kids anything. And what DonkeyKong does with his 2-yr old neice is exactly how we work with our 3-year old daughter. If we tell her that we're going to take something away, we do. If she acts up in front of others, we remove her from the situation and do not let her rejoin the group or activity until she understands why we removed her in the first place. We want to have a daughter that others ENJOY babysitting and having over for a sleepover or activity. A bit of good parenting goes a LOOONNNGGG way.

***EDIT***

For those of you who remember Automan (and that might be a very small few, since it ran only 13 episodes), check out this link for the intro. Is it me, or does Automan's car look like a Lamborghini LP400 Countach?

Holy crap!! For those of you who are diehard fans of the show, I just found a place where you can get all of the episodes (I'm not sure if they are including the 2-hour premiere), on DVD for $25!! I think I'll be getting myself a copy really soon!!
