Hi All

New to this here forum but long time lurker, I have been playing with a Yeti Score and went a bit mad on the upgrades (full Boom racing etc) but as good as it was on 3s it seemed a bit light so had balance / rollover issues despite numerous suspension tweaks etc.

The solution was a Yeti XL kit :lmao: and it is awesome, even on 6s it rarely rolls as it has a good weight to it (epic power but not as scary as I think people made out).

Having read as much as I can I am being a bit more selective with the parts.

Vanquish Axle (black)
Dhawk front bulkhead / diff carrier (black)
Dhawk ali spacers / shims
Dhawk steering linkage (black)
Dhawk knuckles (orange)
Dhawk hubs (orange)
Dhawk rear axle ends (orange)
Dhawk motor mount (orange)
Dhawk upper rear shock mount (orange)
Dhawk rear upper / lower suspension mounts (orange)
Carbon fiber body panels
Front anti roll bar (sway bar)
Castle creations Mamba X 220kv motor / esc and castle link
Castle Blower fan / heatsink
500k rear diff oil
Spektrum DX4C

coming are:
HD gears (once I see how well well shimmed standards last in the vanquish and bulkhead (I know to mod the HD ones with a dremel)
RPM front A arms
Dhawk front shock tower (orange)
GPM axle trus (orange)
Hot Racing piggyback shock ends
Hot racing upper and lower rear arms
Prop shafts of some kind
HD gears

probably loads of other bits :ror:"thumbsup"

Now my current issue even with judicious use of the throttle and some punch control the stock tyres and wheels are not a fan of 6s. no mater the amount of glue I use the tyres eventually pull off and the tiny 17mm hex mounts compared to the large wheels have cracked one wheel already (yay for the spare on the kit version)

I want to go to Baja 1/5th wheels (desperado rims wrapped in Trenchers) on a 24mm hex but all the conversions just talk of the RTR YXL with its 8mm bolt on axles and using the HPI savage kit, having the 17mm hex on 8mm axles in the kit YXL I am assuming I must be able to get a 24mm hex with an 8mm center bore with a captive pin that I can slap on?

I just can't find any info on this and all the 24mm hex listed online never give you full dimensions. I may go to my local RC shop (they are not great as love airborn RC more) and see if they have any I can test fit.

Hopefully one of you clever lot will know off the top of your head"thumbsup"

Np post is worth anything without a pic or two

I haven't found a set of 24mm hex adaptors for 8mm buggy/truggy shafts that just "fit". I have a set of Madmax 24mm hex adaptors with 8mm bore that I have to turn down to the right length on a lathe. Then drill a new hole for the pin. Then it's just a pick of any HPI or Losi 24mm wheels and what ever 1/5th tire strikes me as not being too heavy.

I got a set of cheap plastic 17-23mm hex adaptors then trimmed them down a bit and jb welded them in to the wheels I don't know how it would hold on the yeti but its working great on my clod

Or just get some 17 x 23 mm hex adapters and aluminum foil tape, wrap the adapters with the tape to make up the 1mm difference.

As far as the trenchers go not sure if they have different variations of them but I put a set on my savage flux and was not impressed, the rubber compound is stiff and more designed for the weight of 5th scale rc's how ever the paddle tires work awesome on my savage flux and could only assume they will work great with the yxl, but be careful choosing 5th scale wheels tires, they are spendy and if you don't like them.

Hpi makes and adapter that will work for the rtr axles which go from 8mm down to the threaded prt which is 5mm but I think you will have to drill a small depth of the bored hex out to reach the cross pin on the rtr yxl axle, and these are what I used to mount up the 24mm wheels to my savage flux, and also my traxxas summit

Thanks for the input, I used to do engineering / machine shop work so it is frustrating as hell as I know with milling machine / Lathe access I could knock up the adapters in an hour or so

I am thinking mayne the losi or HPI 1/5th ones with a sleave to take up the difference between the 8mm axle and larger ID of the hexs might be pretty straight forward but will be trial and error

Had a fun day today, this thing is so stable and tracks so straight over the rough stuff. hit some jumps on a pump track and messed up a double and landed on the roof from about 7 foot and ripped the screws out the front body mount :ror: fixed with zipties at the time but then play stopped with same old tire issues (she still flies along on three wheels I found :ror:)

run time on 5000mah 6s is pretty impressive I have to say and I have yet to keep the tyres on long enough to get onto my second pack haha (I need beadlocks so bad)

Luckily the Yeti score came out and with new springs and a few more tweaks was running very well (and had all the lipos to itself ;-) )

If your gluing the tires right, they should hold. Pick up some losi tire glue and do 2 beads each side, bottom of the bead then another above that. You should pick up some CI foams or duct tape your inner tires so they dont expand so bad.

Also make sure tire and rim are clean.

Thanks for the tips

I run a good amount of glue on the bead well then pushed the tyres in hard, then literally filled the remaining gap with glue and left it (a whole bottle for all the wheels).

They have come off leaving bits of rubber on the rim!!

So back to plan Beadlock

Turns out Baja is 12mm stub axle / hex internal diameter, Axial is 8mm axle so I have some 2mm wall 12mm OD /8mm ID stainless tube.

some 3mm x 24mm (and 22mm) hardened dowel pins

some baja 24mm rear hub extenders (allow for different wheel offset and slightly wider track

24mm nuts

4x rear 5t style (70mm ish) wheels / tyres

Plan is drill new 3mm hole on 24mm hex on alternate face to the normal 4mm pin hole , also drilling through the 2mm wall reducing tube, then slide it all together with pin holding it all in place.

simple!

With wheels all in parts probably cost £110ish which isn't bad

will post back the results but fingers crossed

A friend on facebook yeti xl pages makes a 23-24 mm hub adapter for the xl. Look up Wayno Murphy or his company - mad fab motorsports.
I've had a set for 6 months and they are awesome
