Wraith Beginners Guide

ESC and Motor

Stock ESC
The stock Axial AE2 ESC is a good unit that performs well. It lacks the tuning capabilities of some of the higher end units but for a RTR ESC it is a nice piece. During testing I ran this ESC completely submerged. Axial does not advertise it as waterproof but I had no issues using it as such.

My mileage varied with the ESC getting wet... took it through the water ran fine then died. I should of stopped and let it dry out completely at that point but got impatient and started it up, it came to and then died again. Now waiting for my Holmes BRXL to arrive - so it wasn't an entirely bad event.

If the ESC is hot and gets wet it will be more likely to fail. Beyond that instance they seem to have pretty good luck in the water.

I was talking with one of the tech guys at Axial the other day and he told me a couple things one of which was very interesting. They took Their castle ae2 esc and hooked it up to a battery and dunked it under water for 3 days untill it stopped working. The esc has a coating on it that makes it pretty waterproof. Because of California Law they are not allowed advertise its waterproofness. This may be common knowledge so sorry if it is but 3 days with power hooked up is pretty good if you ask me.

Thanks for all the help on here harley and I just tried the R35 ripsaws over the weekend they are great I am glad you told me about them. I just have one more question right now. I read in one of the posts that the part# for the mip shafts that would fit the wraith was in this post but I have read it twice and must be blind cause I can't find it. Can you or somebody give me the part # or post on the first page with the drive shaft section? I just want to be sure I get the right ones. I know you said the ones for a ax10 without dig but the ones I have looked at so far don't say with dig or without dig.
Thanks"thumbsup"

I'll get that updated in a few minutes and post here again.

I am looking for some esc/motor combos but some budget friendly and I was thinking of the sidewinder SCT with 3800KV motor but I want to be shure of being able to use it on 3s and what Spur and pinion will be a good option for crawler friendly????

That motor and ESC are no good for a rig that will see hardly any trail riding. If you want budget you need to go brushed. If you want brushless you need to go sensored.

so want will be a good brush 3s and not to slow??

If you want fast you really need to get a good sensored brushless and spend the money.

I am running the equivalant to about a 27t brushed motor in mine and it has pretty good speed. Do not go lower than a 27t on a brushed motor for something that will see any bind like on a trail. Spend as much money as you can because if you cheap out you will likely burn up the motor faster. Make sense?

Does MMP with tekin 13.5 is what I was thinking cause i heard is the best??

what do you use??

Waiting for Wraith KIT to arrive

I burned my stock motor on my wraith after 3 lipos 2S ( 3 hours). I hqve now a integy 45 turns, will see tomorrow.
I tried to connect my stock ESC on castle link and answer was... unknow ESC.... Is it normal?
