Any new options for Wraith Spawn ESC

My son just smoked out the stock ESC on a brand new (like 15 min runtime) Wraith Spawn 2.2. Looking for durable, reliable options that are fairly budget-friendly. The Hobby shop sold a 3s with it saying it would run it no problem, but now I'm seeing that with a 3s, you need an external BEC? Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated. BTW, I'd like to still keep decent speed with good crawling. All the threads I've found on this are super old, hoping there's some new tech out there that fits the bill!
Thanks!

The threads you have found are old because the wraith is old. ESCs aren't specific to a chassis and There have been lots of suitable ESEs over the years. There's plenty of new ones but even older ones are more than suitable. IMO a BEC is a good idea anyway

Also an option is a replacement with the same you’ve got and drop down to 2S. I’ve never had an issue and mine has many hours of runtime. But I second the opinion that there are a plethora of decent ESCs out there, stick with a recognized brand and you should be okay.
