Would replacing my vrd carbon motor mount plate with the plastic one from the stance lower the lcg?

I'm running Exo Half Domes on my two comp rigs and do like them. The skid is far enough forward to give great breakover but not so far forward that performance suffers in other areas. If I was doing a ground up build today I may choose something else, but they have gotten me a lot of wins and I'm happy enough with them that I'm going to run them both next year.

I do run a VRD Carbon for some comps and use it as a loaner comp rig. I'm switching it to a Rock Pirates chassis this week but if you want to keep stock chassis, I'd ditch the VXT2 tires and get Tusks, DLux Iron Rocks, or Krawlers with 3d printed inserts. Next thing would be a BOCO stainless steel BTA mount from 1Tenth, and I'd drop the ride height a bit.

I ordered JConcept Tusks.

Funny you said that, I’ve been looking at dropping the ride height all week.
Is this the correct mount? BOCO RC - HD BTA Servo Mount and 4 Link Adapter for Composite VP F10 P
I was looking for the lightest one.

My vrd carbon actually has the brazin frontline chassis. I got it to keep my transmission and keep up better and noticed a huge difference I’ll try it out more on the group lines this week when I get time. The vxt tires I got cheap on eBay with wheels and had krawlers before that but are on another crawler currently. Have any suggestions on 3D printed inserts brands for vrd I’m going to get them for my tusks. Thanks for the suggestions on the mount.

Ah, when i was looking at it i thought the skid was more forward than normal but i wasnt sure. You cant run BTA with that chassis, even with a stubby.

I ran a few different inserts in Tusks. Most of this season i ran BAMF. Single shore up front, dual shore super soft out back. But he randomly changes things up and sometimes not for the better. He also has developed a bit of a reputation as a hot head. 3 brothers new antifoams seem to be doing good once they get broken in. Squids also do great, but be sure to email him and give him specs. The newer set i got is a bit firmer than the last set. He will customize for you.

Tusks and 3D prints it is!
Thanks for all your help.

Hello again, been a while. Your help brought me far and I hoping for some further insight.

How did you like the rock pirates chassis compared to the brazin frontline chassis or even the stock vrd carbon chassis? Are you still running the stock vrd trans? I think the rock pirates kraken chassis looks better then the front line appearance wise but according to the specs of both chassis the brazen frontline has skid forward further than the kraken.

I am currently running the Boca 1tenth bta mount you suggested (great suggestion!) on the brazen scale frontline chassis. My frontline chassis build uses a light scx10 transmission and 3d printed lighter skid, I used to run the vrd Stubby kit which actually did fit the frontline chassis with a bta servo and mount. I choose a 13” wb. I made frontline very lightt with no electronics but the motor on the unspung weight and used my stand own stand offs. I wonder how my current frontline setup would fair if I setup the stock vrd chassis or Rock pirates kraken the same as the frontline. Some people like the stock vrd chassis more than the frontline.

No comment on performance as I actually havent ran it yet. Our bigger club takes a break over the winter but the comp season starts Saturday (3/15). If I have time, I might play with it a little after I run my primary comp truck.

Comparing the Kraken side by side with stock chassis, link geometry is a little different as are shock mounting locations and you have more mounting options. Rear shocks will stand up more straight than stock. The skid is moved forward but I'm running stock length links IIRC so no real benefit for me.

You've probably lost performance by switching to SCX10 transmission. The motor location being one reason and the loss of overdrive being another (unless you installed od/ud ring and pinions). 13" wheelbase may be hurting you too depending on terrain. If you want to stick with the Frontline chassis, may want to consider a transmission swap? The exo alpinist is pretty light and has underdrive built in. Pairing that with his skid gives a good bit of flexibility. Setting pinion mesh is a PITA though. DLux and Reefs have small light transmissions with no OD.

ETA This truck is still running the stock transmission with a Fusion Pro. I do have everything needed to convert to stubby but as this is a loaner/endurance comp rig, I'm a bit hesitant to do so.

My frontline has an amazon aftermarket transmission I installed. At first, I was thinking the motor was too center but that was negated completely because it was significantly lighter than the VRD chassis with 3D skid. I lost all the VFD functions, smoothness and and good gearing giving it up for weight of the amazon trans. With the Amazon trans, sometimes my Furitek Komodo 10 would not have enough low end power to get out of certain binds and will stall until I throttle a bit more. I don't like that it stalls at the lowest speed/FOC setting of 3 which never once occurred with the VFD transmission but I can just add a tad more to get it moving. The VFD trans was heavy. I felt the frontline performed much better verticallywith the amazon trans than the vfd did which was significantly heavier but not in the power meaning performance when it comes to stalling on certain binds but not really an issue.

I have both taken apart at the moment. I might try the rock pirates chassis but not sure if I will buy thier kraken links because I wondered if my brazen frontline hardcore rc links will fit the rock pirates kraken chassis. You can see how well the vanquish chassis was deisnged in terms of front end bias. I took photos comparing the vanquish vrd chassis to the brazen scale frontline side by side.
