Winch or no winch? I don't really use them...

I think a winch adds to the looks for a crawler. I have them on a few of my builds. I rarely use them. My boy has one on his bronco and uses it all the time, but he's a kid and having fun with it. Once in a while he'll talk me into using a winch for fun. Either way I'll still keep putting them on my builds.

I am about to start using a couple Reefs Winches on some of my builds and agree they may not be as useful for regular crawling and trailing!! Im Rebuilding my TRX4 Comp Rig into a rescue Rig with 2 winches and a DSM Selfrecovery system which will work great but I have to be honest unless you are competing or building a specific rig the DSM self recovery systems work great and are fast and easy and don't clutter!!! BUZZZZZ.......

And if you do decide to get a winch get a Reefs or 3Brothers the winches are smart winches and are ready to be plugged in and used no extra anything..... BUZZZZZ......

I wheel with my daughter and she doesn't have the patience for winching (and about 1/2 of what we do is just trail running, by the time I have it unspooled she is 1/2 mile up the trail). I suppose if I was by myself and (no offense) nerding out on it I would get into extraction, I had a winch on my first rig and tried it a few times but honestly it just felt fiddly and time consuming when I could just flip the rig over or give it a nudge with my toe. If RC crawlers are still a thing when I hit retirement I will re-visit it lol. And no, I don't want to try a 'kinetic system', except for a comp I just don't see the point, I've never seen a dude in real world pull a 50' bungee cord with a sand anchor out of the truck lol. Not hating on the winches/winchers, it's definitely a part of this, just not for me right now. /rant over lol

If you need a winch for whatever reason get one and enjoy. I personally don't have one on any of my rigs. They look cool but as posted by others, I just give it toe tap or pick it up. I prefer the K.I.S.S way of life (keep it simple stupid, if ya didn't know)

I just put a winch on my Gladiator. It's the first rig I've ever put a winch on. I did it mostly for scale realism and I probably won't use it that often. It does however look very good and playing the line in and out on the workbench is a ton of fun. (I'm just a big kid at heart!!:ror:) We'll see when the snow melts off and I get out on the trails if I actually use it much??

I am the same way about the scale realism. The servo winch is pure functionality, which is what some of my builds are all about. I do have a build that I want to be scale so I but a scale winch on it.
