Hello,

I would like to make myself some custom links out of solid rod. I've heard that revo ball ends (#5347) were very strong and that 8-32 treaded perfectly in them. So I would like to know what rod diameter to use if I want to be able to easily tap it to 8-32.

Thanks

I just did this the other day. You will not find off the shelf rod that will work as is. I used 3/16" solid stainless but then turned the ends down to the proper diameter for the 8-32 treads.

Old links are on top...the new solid links are on the bottom with Revo rod ends installed.

Thanks, maybe I'll just stick to the usual 8-32 threaded rod sleaved in 1/4'' brake line. It will be easier for me. Altought the idea of a solid links sound really good to me.

I use a 10-24 die on 3/16 rod/tube and tap the revo ends for the new size. Works very well and doesn't require a lathe.

I know that this is an older thread but I wanted to add my .02

CHUD said that he had to turn is rod size down to .157" - .163" in order to tap a 8-32 thread size, so he is correct in saying that there is no off the shelf size for that. BUT if you order 4MM rod you can use it to tap 8-32 thread as a 4mm. rod is actually .1575" which is exactly within his tolerance range.

Hope this helps fella's

you cold use 5/32 rod as that is .15625" which is just a hair smaller than chud said he turns the ends down to.

Perfect thread to get bumped. Thought I was crazy trying to tap a 1/4 rod with 8-32 die.
