"Why I don't go to comps".....not looking for comp guy replies....

I would like to give comping a shot actually, just nothing around here really (cincinnati). I have been looking but local its all onroad and sc trucks/buggies around here.

I have been into RC's for a few yrs now (since 1992) an in a lot of places. I would have to say EGO's are what kill RCing for many trying to get into it. what makes the ones who have the ego problems think that their rigs are better than others. Question is your truck,rig,crawler,short course,RC in general really much better than the guys who have the "Same parts" that you have bought?

Ummm...you're confusing me......:shock::roll:

:lmao::lmao:

You comp (sorta why I'm wondering why you posted in here), but gave up on scale comps (?)...(maybe you should have posted in the "Why I don't comp anymore" thread???).

Sigh.....no understanding on my part......unless you're trying to make a point to others in this thread??:roll:
this is the ego I speak of you should maybe re read the thread your on lol last time I looked it was the "why I don't go to comps":flipoff:

So are you talking about online or in person? If you are talking about online, then I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that is any forum these days. Hell, I bet if you found an 80 year old Ladies Quilting Forum, you'd still see Dixie talking trash to Francine. But, I bet if you went to one of their quilting meets, you'd see that they are friendly and welcoming, just like your grandmothers.

I've met quite a few of the people here in person and have been to a number of large comps and every person has been welcoming and willing to help and advise anybody that had questions. Heck, most competitors will spot for each other at comps.

Dont judge a faction of RC by the way people act online."thumbsup"

Sorry, I don't need to re-read my own threads.

This thread is in the newbie forum so the newer peeps can say why they don't go to comps, not why they dropped out of comping (which is sorta where you fit in....I think?)

For the most part it's:
Time
Money
Fear of be "belittled"
Don't understand the rules
No groups nearby

Not flaming (it IS the newbie section), just wondering.....

:lmao: "thumbsup" Ok not Flaming either. this was an is a thread on why I don't go to comp's. as for going to comps have been will continue to attend. also do short course racing so if I didn't go it would most like have to do with conflict of interest. an I totally understand it wasn't flaming its the "EGO" thing I get it.

well my mum doesn't have the money to go to Arvada or even GOTG to have a look see or crawl so i just build my own out of virtually crap (i recycle bottles & pop cans hehe)

I love the idea but dont have the time to drive out to the other side of cleveland or the middle of pa to comp.+ i have a ridge crest which from what I've read isnt worth a crap against real crawlers and cant be scale because of the lack of frame rails. I live in Ashtabula and it has a ton of great spots ( from lake erie to the covered bridges) lots or mud, rocks , trails and even sand. Their are four race tracks with in a hour of me but its always been a guy with the most money wins and a 16 hour day away from my family. Thats one of the main reasons I love scale\crawling, I can do it on my time and its relaxing and fun. Sadly their isnt anyone around here that does it to except my 9yr that love to run the rivers and try to crawl with his stampede. I guy I know from pa has a group and has invited me down to run class two with my crest but hes in franklin and it would take me a hour and a half to get there.so if there were comps in my area Id would run them if there was a class for me that I not get destoryed.

I got lost on the ego's, so egos are why people don't go to comps? I keep wanting to go, but every time I think my rig is up to par I have total failure with heat issues, gearing, or something or another that keeps me on the bench but I'll make it to the dirt soon.

I will let pretty much any ,I mean anybody drive my rig if they come up and show true interest. I showed an very elderly man how the controller worked and then let him drive my Savage nitro at the ballpark, he left and said he was going to get his grandson cause they have got to get a toy like that. but that's me and it can be rebuilt if some rookie crashes. so my let egos get in the way? I think the comp would be somewhat stressful. I would like a "follow the leader" type event. you know like, I got up here, can you, but not so much timed event, but don't be holding up the line either. if you cant make it go around(less points). Anyhow I'm out

lol I hand my ridgecrest to the 3 year old all the time. if a stranger doesn't seam the type to run off with it I have no problems handing over the controller to them. still learning what kind of beating the scx-10 can take, not sure I'd hand it to someone under 10-12. its all plastic and can be replaced but the body was customized by someone else so I'm not sure I could get it right again. has had some nasty falls already though and no real damage so not to worried about them crashing it as long as they show enough brains not to go full throttle all the time.

IMHO, egos aren't the problem. The problem is the thin skin that has been bred with liberal "love" and participation trophies. People these days seem to think they should win at whatever they try regardless of how little tuning and practice they have put in. I like the practice and tuning almost as much as the actual comp. If we were all just there for a participation trophy then there wouldn't be any pressure. Without the pressure I wouldn't get that awesome feeling of shaking hands, sweat rolling off of me, and the tunnel vision during those 5 minutes. I love that its not easy.

Wish I could like it twice

lol I don't sweat or shake but I get that tunnel vision. I have no doubt in my mine that I'm going to lose, everyone has years of experience and tuning they cars. I have a car that I put together from a pile of scrap parts I bought. but I go out every time and have a blast.

I tried the comp class comps and hated them. it felt like no matter how much experience you had you needed to dump a ton into your car just to be able to finish the courses.

I'm running scale now and I'm loving it. I have no chance in hell of winning because I don;t have the scale points, but I have a good chance of completing the courses. I've been to 2 so far, and my overall score is a 4 I think. so I'm doin pretty bad lol. but I have a blast each time I go out. getting thru a gate everyone else has problems with, or finding a better line, or just completing the course when I'm at a disadvantage is a rush and feels like a win to me. I'm still learning my car, what it can do, what it cant. still trying to improve the car though the only really big improvements I can see are high clearance knuckles and vvd's. everywhere else it performs as well or better then the other rigs in the comps. even with a perfect rig though I;d still prolly lose, I push the limits of the car alittle to much. but thats where I find the fun, pushign the limits and seeing how everyone else does it then trying to do it in a better or harder way.

I agree if people didn't wanna win then there would be no point in having a comp. Its that drive to out tweak and out drive the other guys that keeps out of bar fights. gotta get that testosterone out somewhere. my wife prefers the rocks than some guys face. bottom line your either competitive or not

And once you do it a bit, you'll find ~80%+ is the driver, not the depth of the wallet.
Pretty much common thought with WHATEVER you attempt.:shock::roll:
