So if you want, you can run a small 2s direct for the servo, Johns an airplane guy, so his thoughts and reasons are different than ours.
I have 2 PMs and run both off a bec without issues.

I'll try to test it off of a tiny 2S pack, though I really dont know If i can stand to pack another battery just for this servo. If these truly need to run off of the battery it would be nice if there were more than the small note at the bottom of the product page.

And just so its clear this servo is very strong unloaded but when it sees any significant load I'm guessing its only putting out sub 200 torque, it just goes limp basically giving up on the tougher stuff that any of my other strong servos dont bat an eyelash at. I really want to like this servo but it needs to perform if I'm gonna keep it.

I'm pretty sure I maxed it out at 8.4 V but I'll double check once I get to testing. The odd thing is that my Brothers 470 acts the same, though I did buy both at the same time so maybe a bad batch, well enough speculating I need to just get to testing.

I hope its a fluke and I see nothing but 5 star reviews on the PM site.

I can confirm that my v1 gears are compatible with many of the JX servos.

Since I had my v1 SHV 12v servo knocked off by JX (ex employee of my OEM that stole a lot of files), I was interested to see how much it was just a visual knockoff, and how much was 100% copy. One vendor is using JX for his "14v" servos, so I picked up one as well. It has a little higher torque output, which tells me they probably upped the PWM output a little. Hook them up to my programmer, not a surprise that they connect right up. Yep, just a little higher PWM. Not just a knockoff, a complete ripoff of my v1 housing, motor, gearset, and control board.

What I don't understand is why a vendor would put their entire reputation on the line by claiming that the product is completely new and original, when it is more than obvious that neither the product or the concept is. I know this isn't new in the hobby (especially china vendors), but I won't be upset to watch them have all the same problems I did with my v1. Good luck buddy, you got into bed with a business partner that will steal your work too. Too bad they left my OEM right before I made the v2, lol!

Which model did you use to hook up and test. I have not used any jx servos before and have seen a few models referenced in this thread. So are you saying it's very close to clone of yours but with cheaper gear set. I have no idea of manufacturers cost of gear sets but could they be saving all that much money cost wise by cheaper gearset. Seems like if they were gonna steal or copy it why not just use same gear set you use. I am always entertained seeing clones of all sorts of products and seeing differences visually. Interesting to read a little on differences physically from the designer of the original product. Thanks for sharing your findings.. have used several of your brushed motors over the years and just got in a 550 21t trailmaster for a sort of budget bomber build. Been using my waterproof brxl for years and still works great!! Thanks for quality products sir!

Two cc beds failed wiping out two servos each time.


Mamba x internal or 1080 internal. If I have to use one either heyok or cheapest to drop voltage for less that I dont care about.

So after testing the Promodeler 470 without a BEC I had the exact same issue and I've shot a quick video of what it does (running the servo on straight 2S). Though I'm still waiting on John to get back to me, I told him I wouldn't post up the video if he'd prefer (its unlisted).

Is anyone running DS3218MG’s straight of 2s or 7.2v NiMh?
6.8v is max mentioned on Aliexpress. I also want to get rid of the external bec. Its a 1060 esc and gets stupidly hot with the servo on it , thats why Ive got the silly bec now. I would like to not have it though.

I have run them at both 6.0 and 7.4 without issue. I also run LED's off the HW1080 built in bec through the receiver, and at the higher volts it burned out the controller. So for my rigs with lighting and/or a led controller, I set them at 6.0v. No more lighting problems.

The servo works fine at either setting, however the higher volts is a bit higher than they're rated. I just haven't had any issues with them running them there. Obviously it runs a little faster at the higher volts, but I can't tell the difference in stall torque - surely it's higher there as well. My experience is that the gears or shaft bearings wear or get loose, and it gets sloppy, way before they burn out. But then I only run the higher volts for comps, without lights, for peak performance, but no recent comps so not a lot of high-volt time to see if it burns them out. Frankly, I think you'll be just fine at the higher voltage. YMMV

In all of the comparo testing - I forget where I saw that, maybe it's up-thread - anything above 200oz/in drew so many amps it would brown-out a built in bec. There are all kinds of options for stronger servos if you're willing to adapt power to it. IMO that moves them away from the 'cheap servo' category. YMMV. :mrgreen:

Point taken - However, there are also many different strengths of built-in BECs...

For example, the Hobbywing 1080 ESC has 6V/7.4V @ 3A (switch mode) available, and a Mamba X or Mamba Monster X has up to 8A up for grabs.

That, and the fact that there is a variance in various brands and models of servos amp draw means that there is a chance that this DS3225MG may still be a great budget servo option for certain applications.

It's commonly mentioned that Savox servos are more power-hungry than many other servos of the same torque rating (just to provide an example) and they are a brand that often is mentioned when brown-outs occur.

Doesn't make Savox worse servos for all applications, just that the end user may be more likely to need an external BEC to take care of the issue.

As for the DS3225MG, it's unknown at this point just how "hungry" it may be!

I ran a 3S pack through the Nomad buggy (still on its stock servo and wheel/tire setup) in the business park parking lot just now, pavement was a little damp - I was just doing figure eights and then some serious drifting and a few J-turns...

Stock servo still holding, but when the seriously toothy Proline Badlands go on it later this weekend and I hit some off-road action - I imagine I'll toast it and install the DS - not certain what the built-in BEC of the Reedy SC1000-BL ESC puts out, can't find the info anywhere (annoying!).

At that point, if it seems to cause a brown-out I will post up here. It won't mean much because of the unknown output of the RTR Reedy ESC, of course!

I have a new Castle WP BEC 2.0 I can then wire in, if necessary...

I learned real quick about those by getting involved with electric helis back in the late 90s. Brown out on a steering servo in a car. . no biggie. Brown out on a heli spinning blades of death at 2k rpm, you're lucky if it's just the heli that's destroyed and no one gets hurt.


They just started introducing 2S lipo backup systems now in case the BEC or main pack has a problem. At least you can try to auto-rotate it in for a landing.
