What does a $2,200 SCX10 Look like???

Lol. I love the crawlers so I don't mind. I think what I enjoy is the engineering and design of the parts that these top notch rc companies make. For me, it's the enjoyment of building something that's your own rig, the way you want it. I like learning from others and what they have done to their rigs. I like testing some of these parts on my rigs to use and abuse them to see what brakes. Making cool scale videos goes hand and hand with these scalers. It's a fun learning process to capture and edit some really cool crawler videos. I do it as a challenge to see my videos get better and better. I'm starting to think through my next crawler video next.

Okay you asked for it...here's my thoughts on your truck.

STRC knuckles and C hubs kind of made me wince. I have those and they suck. VP Curries with STRC crapola stuck on the ends? WTF man. No expense spared...you know that means VP end to end...but maybe they looked or fit better in your opinion. I know there is no way I would stick those on such nice axles.

Stinger might work well but it looks ridiculous to me. Then again all my rigs look ridiculous so who am I to judge your stinger? I did a no expense spared U4 project but I purposely did not track the money spent...it was too much for a toy car and I knew it. Knowing how much I was throwing down that hole would have killed my buzz. Knowing I spent $300 just on the power plant makes me woozy.

You'll have no problem finding $2K builds on this forum...but the ones that get raves are the totally custom fabricated rigs that are not just a collection of bolted on parts.

The main thing is not to expect anyone else to give a rat's ass about how much you spent or whether you like to drive under water but to enjoy that for yourself. One thing I found out was no one on this forum is going to be into my truck as much as I am or appreciate all the little things I did as much as I do or want to watch videos of it or even look all the way through my build threads. I do it all for my own pleasure. I try to share solutions to problems that others may encounter, or ways to make things work that might be out of the ordinary...that's the part where I actually give a crap what people think. Helping someone sort out CMS or build a better axle is something I need feedback on. But I no longer expect anyone to dig my builds. But if they do cool beans.

I agree lots of cool builds on here. I like the fabricated stuff as a well. One thing I need help with and I get confused with is the STRC parts. Some people say that they are a poor man's vanquish parts. I do agree, but I think for me at least for now (until I get more money to buy them), I think the steering knuckles and hubs are just fine. Really I do, not kidding. So beyond the extra turning radius I have to admit that the quality of the STRC knuckles and C Hubs are quite good. I like them a lot! Also, they fit the vanquish curries perfect. I mean it's a perfect fit. They slide right on
and I love them.

You Love it: that's the important part. What I think sucks about the SCX10 STRC knuckles are the arms. Way too much Ackerman and not enough throw. The metal is better than the HR junk I also have but not as good as the VP metal which I also have. Bearing pocket was better than HR but not as good as VP. The fit to a stock Axial C Hub was fine. The fit to the bushing was fine. I know all about cutting costs but sometimes you have to go for it. At least you don't have any Level-3 Racing part on there  I made that mistake. Utter garbage. But I made that junk work for me and now I'm happy. Glad you could take my comment in the spirit in which it was intended.

ok so I was just washing some dishes and thinking about a few possibilities for the future of this build:

1) I could run these STRC parts hard, use and abuse them and see how well they work before eventually knowing that I'd most likely upgrade then to vanquish anyway. I do like testing parts to see what they will do.
2) I can throw them on Craigslist now while they are still new and just go for it! I do like the better steering angle and that's the determine factor to just get them now.

MountainStorm: you just sold me on the idea. There goes another $86 ...... I'll have to take it out of the kids college fund.

I put aluminium hubs, carriers, and c hubs along with aluminum motor mount and 4 link all from STRC and have bashed the literal hell out of the truck and havent had a single problem (apart from not permatexing the grub screws, and lost a lower link with grubs). I bought the metallic green to match the falken body and screw what people think anyways, its your truck not theirs.

strc is solid... vp is good stuff but not the god damn end all be all of rc quality and performance.

LOTS of 2k+ rigs on the board. ive paid close to half that just on tubework.

When you post a build on a public forum and say "Let me know what you think." you are outright asking for an opinion and as we all know not
everyone's opinions are the same.

Thanks guys, appreciate the good feedback. I think the STCE stuff is good. I have some other parts that are made by STRC on previous rigs with no issues. For this build, just for fun, I may try out the vanquish silver c hubs and knuckles. I'm curious to the better 8 degree steering.

the fact that you spent that much money on that truck simply blows my mind....but to each their own

Cool truck, not exactly how I would have done it but its a 2,000 scx10 so i'm not going to complain, i enjoyed the pics.

I came from the faster trucks also and ended up dumping tons of cash into an scx10 as soon as I fell in love. Have since moved on to the wraith and yeti platform but the scx10 is an awesome truck

So I like the rig, nice parts, but man, that cage is ugly. And it's nobody's business but your own on how much you spend. It's a hobby. Hobbies are not cheap. If I added up all the money I've spent in fly fishing gear over the years, I'd probably throw up. But hey, it's what I do.

I like this guy, and poorly executed CMS enrages me...

I'm not sure why, but I've always kept excel sheets on my rigs over the years. I think it's because I'll sit at my desk job during the day and act like I'm working but really trying to see how much more I need to save up for to get that next part.... I think that's where it started. But yes, I hide the excel sheet from the wife...so it's all good. After that, I just try and not care how much I have in it.... this truck was a 6 month work in progress. I'm just an average guy like everyone else and save for each part here and there. I know there's a lot of very expensive rigs on here.

CMS is something I may do in the future.

Ok see if I can get some advice on CMS and Vanquish Currie C hubs and knuckles.
1) cannot use vanquish because of my Mickey Thompson rims. Seems to be a common problem on the scx10 and all rims other than vanquish. I refuse to do offsets and wider spacers because will turn a class 1 crawler into a class 2 (because tires will over hang wheel wells by more than half. Also I refuse to change rims and I would not want to use a wider hex and washer and take the chance of rounding out wheel hex. So it looks to me that vanquish will not work on most scx10s. So I'm forced to with Strc which I fine with. Can anyone counter this argument?

2) I don't like CMS for its articulation. I love my rigs servo to center its weight right over the axle. The steering works much better as its more direct. The servos weight is down low. The steering rod and drag link protect the upper part of the currie axle from scratches (don't care about scratches underneath). And best of all, since the rigs steering is in line with the axle, I can wiggle off rocks that don't catch the stinger. Otherwise I would just be hung up.

Axial high steer knuckles will give you more steering angle and should work with your rims (assuming your rims don't have less offset than the Axial plastic beadlocks).

Love your truck. I really like the cage. I can see the doors would actually open. That one horizontal black line is just door trim. And I've seen cages over the hood on 1:1 rigs before. They usually have a removable pin with hinges so the cage can swing out of the way for hood access....so I think it's pretty true to scale. Oh yeah and you don't take your money with you when you die and it's nobody's business what you spend it on. At least you're not buying drugs and hookers y'know
