Venom Safari Creeper RTR Crawler????

Ok, I am going to be purchasing a Safari Creeper and theres a few things i wanted to ask.

1.Does the Safari have aluminum links "and parts that are aluminum on the creeper kit" like the creeper kit?
2.Can the foam from the stock tires fit in hot bodies rovers?
3.Is there a better rc crawler on the market for the same price range that performs as good or better? I really have looked between the safari and the SCX10 and I've decided i want the more capable one.
4.I am selling my go kart to get the money for the rc crawler..... should i keep the go kart? or get a crawler? IK this doesnt apply to RCCRAWLER but im stuck!

IMHO the SCX10 would've been better. Not only because it shares so much in common with the AX10, but the availability and upgrades are way better than the safari. Im sure with enough experimenting it will be a fun truck though. All that matters is having fun!

I wouldn't really say the Safari creeper is more capable then the SCX10. The SCX10 is a scale truck where as the Safari is just a Venom creeper with a chassis add on to make it look like a scale truck. It uses the same parts as the Venom creeper including the bad battery mount location and shock location. I would say if you want a scaler go with the SCX10 as there are more upgrades out there. If you want a rock crawler get the Venom creeper or an AX10.

If I remember right the stock tires are 5" and the Rovers are 5.5", so the answer would be no.

iv had one for a few months. it will come with a set of sleeves to cover all the axle pins. put em on it. my tranny had 2 odd ball screws rattling around in it, looked like motor mount screws.
the diff locks suck, fill the diffs with jb weld.

so far i havent broken any parts though, and iv had a blast just playing with it.

my wife wanted to build a few big rock flower beds. i spent 90% of a weekend building her "flower beds""thumbsup"

Sweet! That thing looks awesome!! Love the body! How about those tires I hear they are not very "grippy". If you fill the diffs with JB Weld you can't use the Dig, right!

The tires work but not all that great. I had them on my creeper and siped them to make em work a little better. For $50 you can get 4 white dot rovers with double deuce foams from Crawler Innovations. As for JB welding the diff you'll still be able to use the dig. The dig works off the drive shaft engaging and disengaging it. You can also look at a set of FLM lockers or a set of Paradox Lincoln lockers, instead of using JB weld.

I bought a Venom Creeper but not the scaler. It does have many good points. The axle's etc are very beefy. Very thick with strong flanges for link and shock mounts. I ran stock venom axles on a scaler in a TTC event and had absolutely no problems with them. They do hold up well. But the bad is that there are many poorly made parts in the kit. One of the reasons it costs so little. The stock bearings suck. and the hardware strips very easy. You can replace the bearings at least do the axle outers (in the knuckles). The transmission is also hard to work with and very large. Hard to pull the motor with it in the vehicle. Not really to bad of faults and easily fixable. It is just you can see the cost savings in the overall quality of what you get in the kit. Even the stickers are cheesy. I got my kit for about $100 new and do not feel it was an overall bad deal as there were many useable things in it. I never ran it in a comp though and just played with it then used parts for scalers.

The Axials are just a way better made rig. So much easier to get parts or upgrades for. You can buy stuff to do almost anything you could think of with the Axial rigs. That is good if you cant craft your own parts. The Axials in kit form are also much easier to assemble.

So while the Axial may or may not cost more initially, you are getting a much better value and saving in the long run. As you may have to quickly replace many Venom parts. They are not a bad rig at all, just plan on some frustrations.

As far as performance. I would assume the Venom may be able to make some lines that an SCX10 could not (both completely stock). Due to the Venoms larger tires and more flex (not always a good thing but at times is). But where do you go with the Venom? There are very very few upgrades for it in comparison to Axials. And when you break parts (you will) where do you get them. Venoms are very hard to find. Every site out there carry's Axial stuff. And many local shops, at least in my area do as well.

Not sure if you should sell your kart to get the crawler. Make sure you plan for the extras you will need. Such as electronics, batteries, chargers, misc parts, etc. If it is on a whim that you came across the RC crawler craving then I would say hold off. You may regret getting rid of the Kart. But if it is something you never use anymore and haven't for some time then have at it. Just take some time to consider what you are doing so you do not get buyers remorse. I know it sucks when you want something. But everyone has sold something at one time and regretted it.

i cut all the small lugs off my tires, helped some.
and forgot to mention, my stock esc lost reverse on the second run(2s lipo). i got a losi strike esc in it now. its a decent cheap esc, lipo cut off and has a crawler mode.
as far as the dig, i unhooked mine and used the 3rd channal to run my winch

I just spent the day letting kids beat on 2 donated Venom Safari Creepers... About 200 kids beat on these trucks (and I do mean BEAT., Yes both trucks had the lockers eventually fail but, I am completly amazed at how much of a beating these things took. The radio they come with is actually a fairly decent fm radio (not 2.4) and they came with a 5000 mah 2s lipo hard case and charger. These trucks got ran to the point of the motors smoking yet we never broke an axle shaft, stripped a hex or threw a DS... Lockers are only $10 each for HD ones so not a huge deal there.

I personally own a set of venom axles that I used in my sprotsman and now a scaler. You are not going to find an axle that turns any better than these, much better than axials or even losi.

No matter what you go with, youll need to upgrade parts, thats the normal evil.

if you go with the safari i would flip the trans and run the dig as a 2 position instead of 3 position. this way you have 2wd with power to the rear and the front is free wheel and then 4wd like on a real truck but that's just my 2 cents

The venom creeper needs some work to get it right. example, JB weld the diffs.


I've seen some really cool creeper safari scalers.

If you are going for "scale" AND "capability", then you are on the right track.

Weight the wheels
Lower the COG
Have fun!

How do you lower the center of gravity?! Move the battery to the axle?!

Yeah, battery on rear axle would help lower center of gravity, but may mess up any "scale" looks that you might be going for.

check out the creeper section on this forum.
Basically everybody gets rid of the battery tray and moves the upper shock mounts to the chassis and the battery gets put on the rear axle.

they are total performance improvements.
You could look into saddle packs if a battery on the back axle messes up your scale looks.

Also, somebody in the creeper forum has found a battery that mounts inside the chassis where the ESC is supposed to go. (sorry , i don't remember which thread that is)
