Hi, ill get my Phoenix straight axle kit this weekend and since its my first real crawler, i was wondering what battery packs are you guys running for trail and crawling? Im looking to go 3S with my wp1080 and HH crawlmaster sport 13T combo.

Shorty packs or standard size?

Any benefits going with some lighter 1500mah shorty packs in the phoenix?

both will fit in the provided trays... however I like running the smaller packs for weight advantage but my sessions tend not to be long distance or time, with that said it be depending on your trails. Are you going for time and distance then I would run a larger pack.

Probably around 1 hour rides...

I can buy a combo pack of 2 shortys or 1 standard size for roughly the same price.

I run 1300 or 1550 mah packs and easily get an hour or more out of all my rigs. I’d prefer two small packs even for longer rides for the weight advantage.

Tbh I usually just grab a pack that’s storage charged and still get 45 minutes or more out of those.

Smaller, lighter packs are always beneficial for COG.

Most of my fleet uses 2200 mah 3s packs as a good balance of cost/weight/runtime.

Are you competing or simply running trails ?
Lighter weight if using the first option.
As far as the later I'd choose runtime.
So I'd get the biggest MAH capacity that will fit.

Because I don't compete I'll run dual 8000 MAH Lipos wired in parallel for my SCX6. Most all of the time.

If I were competing with the SCX6 maybe dual 3000 MAH wired in series or parallel.
The lipo S selection would be dependent on what voltage your ESC can handle. And how much power you want.

I run dual 3s 3000 MAH wired parallel on my 1/10 scale most always.
Series wired if I wish to exploit 6S power

Of course my selection would likely include dual 4s wired parallel for my SCX6 behemoth.
Probably a 3S for my 1/10th scale crawlers.
and considering that ^ probably a 3S - 2200 MAH for competition.
Though I prefer dual Lipo packs (one on each slider) for weight distribution / balance.

I'm a firm believer that one can never have too much power !
Or a shortage of run time !

Ill use the truck for trail only, no comp.

I was more wondering about the balance of the truck going with a small vs bigger battery in the stock location on the phoenix.

If the difference is minimal i may just go with a bigger 3S battery for better run time....

if you are just having fun out on the trails and not comping then just throw a large battery in there and go have a blast! I just went out last weekend with my 11 year old son and it's nice to just throw some big batteries in the trucks and go hit the trails for as long as we like. they last a long time and maximizes the fun when you can just drive it without swapping in packs all the time. I mean look at that excitement LOL
