Traxxas Summit LT

Traxxas's parts being interchangeable?? To hell you say.. :lmao: They have like 5 or Rc's made out of the exact same parts just in different orders.

I'm not sure I really follow what you're saying.

You would think that the parts would just bolt on, but they don't for a couple reasons. The Summit uses wider differential housings because of the remote locking feature. The short arms have to modified to work properly. The Summit also uses long travel rockers, so the arms have to be further modified or the rockers have to be replaced. The drive shafts have to be cut also.

any vids of it in action ?

There is a video up. I wasn't driving and I really don't think the video does justice to what this truck can really do.

When the snow eventually melts, we'll shoot a new video with more rocks, maybe a water crossing and some jumping.

I'm looking but not seeing the vid? Anyone? I checked under videos, matt's blog and the forum in rcca...

Thanks for the heads up--i was hunting through the crawling sections. The vid wasn't that bad--I think the springs seemed stiff but I assume its a bit of a work in progress--I like what you did so far and will shamelessly copy you and post a build thread taking all the credit "thumbsup" (just kidding)

I do hope to get a better video done, but thanks. You're spot on about the springs. The stock Summit springs are way too stiff because they are made to work with much longer arms that have more leverage. I hope you do build one. It's a really fun truck.

I like mine better...

Wonder where they got the idea?

The color is better and those rims look sweet!! Hmm I wonder if button head scews and some kinda tubes could be used for body mounts. What all parts did you use for that build? I have an E-maxx that bascally collects dust. I would like to start over with a Summit if I could get rid of this dust collecter. I like this short arm and reg. tire look.

Truck looks cool Matt, maybe those smaller tires will help keep the summit together better. I had a blast with the one I had, the 2 speed, the locking diffs, all great, I just couldn't keep it together for the life of me.

I am sure you have been to a real monster truck rally. Those huge tires dont do the truck any justice. I immagine the Summit is kinda the same

The process is pretty simple. I will show how to do it in detail in our March issue, but you basically need Traxxas Slayer Pro 4X4 arms, steering links, cantilevers and push rods. The arms need to be modified to work properly and you will need to swap springs and use 14mm hexes. Yes, those are Traxxas rims for the Slayer and Slayer Pro 4X4. The tires and foams have to be modified to work with the rims. I believe these are the best rims to use, but there are other options. Again, I'll show all the little tweaks that need to be donw in our March issue. There are a lot of clearance issues that pop up. Glad you like it. This truck is simply fun. I call it the ultimate RC hybrid.

I'm going to have to go buy this mag now then

watched the video, its defiantly sprung to heavily but i like it.once you soften it up it should perform better on the rocks but im not sure how it will do at high speeds. nice truck.

any updates on this ? id like to see a mini summit lt...

Not too much to really update.

I will be upgrading the steering. I have all the parts, but haven't started wrenching yet. I plan to replace the stock servos with a single Hitec unit. The Hitec servo is a newer waterproof model with crazy hight torque. I will also be replacing the servo arm with an aluminum single sided version from Golden Horizon and a steering arm pin mount from GH as well. The steering arm mount should allow for increased steering throw. I also have a GH motor mount. The motor mount will be good if I upgrade the motor system to brushless. The steering mods should help the one area that I thought could use some help.

I don't know about a mini Summit LT. The 1/16 Summit is good basher for a mini, but it doesn't having the 2-speed or locking diffs.

i know you were planing on doing a proper vid ,is that still i the works ?

Hello MattH

Sorry for my english, I come of the frensh part of Switzerland !

Thank's to share your experience, I falling in love when I have see your modification !

I finish the transformation on my Summit today, I don't have time to try this configuration on terrain (maybe this wek-end), but I see some problem coming... Like glue the Badland on the Pro Line beadlock...

But before glue, I would like to tell you what you have use for foam iniside ? The original foam I have look like to much "lite" !!

Thank's fore sharing !

Stéphane

I used memory foam and I like it, but couldn't help but wonder if "standard" open cell foams would be better. I order some dual stage foams from Pro-Line, but they are too small. I think I'm going to stick with the memory foam. They do not seem to hurt the bashing ability of the truck at all and they clearly help on the rocks.

Go with some foams from CrawlerInnovations. "thumbsup" Amazing the difference they make.

There is a reason everyone on this board uses them.
