The Few, The Proud, The Marine Grease

Alright peoples, I'm building my first crawler, and I almost got all the parts in through the mail so I am pretty much ready to start building this sucker. I had a question about greases though. Where I work, I have access to an abundance of NLGI Grade 2 Blue Marine Grease that we use on our 15HP high RPM can motors bearings, and that I also use on my 1:1... Is this a suitable grease for lubing up these tiny metal trans and axle gears I got over here? I was always under the impression that grease was grease, but just want to make sure.

Also while we are on the subject of lube, what do you guys recommend I use for my shock oil?

That'll work fine. So does regular bearing grease.

I like Losi shock oil cause it's color coded so when the time arises to change it out, I know what's in there.

Use it sparingly on the gears, don't just pack it in there.

Why? My axles stuffed with lithium grease. No rust on the ring and pinion or the axle shafts. I also took a couple of set screws and put them into the little holes on the top of the axle by the knuckles. Although, I don't have any grease in the actual tranny.

Lithium grease? Not the greatest. You should be using either marine or aircraft grade grease. No grease in the trans? Why? When you pack gears with grease, it creates a lot of unnecessary drag. If you just give them a light coat, you have near zero drag and still prevents rust and corrosion.

There's grease in the trans, just not lithium grease. And it's multipurpose lithium grease. It's good for a water repellent and also is good for anti seize purposes. Plus, it's safe to use on plastic. It's similar to marine grease, just a different color and name. I use it on everything. My rc's and my mountain bike included. I've had my crawler completely submerged and nothing's locked up or rusted inside the axles. It sticks to everything too.

I haven't had a problem with it yet and it's been in my axles for close to a year so...
