One of the reasons for the new rule is to avoid what happened at motorama in the 1.9 class where a couple competitors noticed that straddling the gate marker could cause their truck to roll over, so they removed the gate markers by hand, taking the gate penalty, but no longer having to deal with the potential driving hazard. The other reasons for the rule was due to the ever growing concern with driver safety and to make things more consistent with having gates and boundaries scored similiarly.
According to the new rule, the if the gate is touched by anything other than the truck, time will stop and the gate will be repositioned and no penalty assessed. Much like the boundaries, the gate is only for the truck and not for the driver.
So, is this going to be handled according to the new rules or the old rule with it being a penalty?
Also, will time be stopped for repositions? It's not spelled out as clearly as it could be, but according to Fish and the rules committee, this should take place to avoid any safety issues with drivers trying to rush while walking/running on the rocks.
