it has IFSand IRS, no way this is gonna be a serious crawler, but it isw a good back yard basher and can handle SOME rocks, but they have to be smale or "scale"

as a true to "scale" from factory it would work, but because we dont do from factory scale it would be hopeless. you could put it on 2.2s, with geolandars or imex and it would be a scale lifted hummer, have fun with whatever you choose to do.

im going to build a crawler with either clod or locked out Emaxx axles, but i was just thinking something like this would be fun to play in the backyard and let friends play with....

I have a Tamiya Hummer with nothing more than a 55T motor and locked diffs and it is a blast for wheelin. It's nothing like my Clod but it is alot of fun.

Below is my Traxxas 4Tec that I converted to a crawler. It is very similar to the Hummer so you could do similar mods. I put a little longer shocks on it, put a 55T Lathe motor in it, changed the gearing to 94/14 (48 pitch gears), and made some new body mounts. I bought some black HPI touring car wheels and Tamiya F150/S10 tires for it.
Ace and I take it and his Pajero to the construction sites in town and have a blast.

After this outing I decided that the little tires jusst weren't enough so I put some Traxxas Rustler wheels on it and ProLine Dirt Hawgs. The CG is so low on these touring car chassis that it makes up for the lack of articulation.
You don't need alot of money to go have fun.

so the tamiya hummer actually is fun?
You bet, every little rock you come across is a challenge.

If all you want to do is drive over the biggest rocks you can find then a Hummer or Pajero (Tourag) will not be any fun.

But if you enjoy the challenge of climbing obstacles and picking lines that werk, and even stacking a few rocks, then a Hummer can be loads of fun. Plus I build a trail in my backyard with small rocks that was a challenge and I could go play on anytime I wanted. With the big trucks it was no challenge so I have to always drive somewhere that has big rocks.

I really want to get one of these things. It would so much easier to find a place to wheel that than a crawler. At least here.

I have one of these with cut stock tires, locked diffs, and a magnetic mayhem. It is real scale and is a blast to drive. It looks just like a real hummer when you are driving it around in puddles up to the winshield. It is not a great crawler when compared to a TLT, but you'd be surprised where it can go if you use a whole bunch of momentum. Sometimes when if flops on its side if you steer towards the ground and goose it, it'll flip upright.

I beat on mine hard, and the only things I have been able to break are the rear dogbones, crack the body, and strip several spur gear over the past three years. The dogbones where my fault, as I stuck some T-maxx shocks on the back to almost double the suspension travel, but it allowed the dogbones to bind at full droop and snap. The spurs are Tamiya's fault, as the plastic motor mount flexes when you really bind up the tires and it pulls the pinion away from the spur and strips it.

Unless you are looking for a scale look, than you would probably be better off with a Blazing Star. These use the same basic chassis, but have longer A-arms and shocks for more travel and stability, and a much lighter lexan buggy body. Of course, you could stick the Hummer body on the Blazing Star, or the Blazing Star's suspension on the Hummer and have a wide stanced (is that a word) Hummer.

Yeah, that Hummer was my first ever "real" RC (not from Radioshack). I had so much fun with it. I never really did any mods to it, but it performed pretty well.

I'd say that the tires (just like a Pajero) is the only weakness. Tons of fun though. And you can drive around inside too, which is lots of fun too.

If anyone wants a Tamiya Hummer body, I still got mine. PM for pics, etc.
