Skaldiddog's "Progress"

Looks pretty killer! But 4 fluter on AL? You know I'll have to give you a hard time about that.

I'm no machinist. How many flutes should I be using?

Love the cases! What is the "belly plate" for?

To cover the hole left from removing the bottom of the gear case.

All the shiny bits are cool but that is honestly the best part of this post. "thumbsup"

...made by me mother father!!!"thumbsup"

You ever gonna post more burger build pics or can I finally stop checking and unsubscribe to this thread?

D'OH!

I assume that I'll have to spin those faster?

Its not a huge deal for stuff like skimming cases, but the work will go faster and have a better finish. The tools will last longer as well. If you ever have a project where you will be hogging a lot more, get a few new mills. Some radius on the tip (.007 to 015") will make them less likely to break too, a real big life extender.

If you want to keep the chip load constant without changing feed rate, it would need an increase in spindle speed.

Machining and eating are very similar apparently.
Nice radius on that bite... What was your chew load and feed rate on that burger? That billet of beef needs hogging :ror:

Where's the HDPE version of the case bottoms? Those look nice by the way.

Blue Voodoos

Try Vespel. "thumbsup"

Ssssssounds sssssssuper sssssslippery.

OK Matt and Rowdy, I'll close tonight (medical jargon for House) and hope to sipe and install hangers soon thereafter. I'll always remember this set of tires because I'm gonna beat the heck out of my new cases shaking them down.

Full report post testing.

Taking Blues from Hop to Hunt...

Ran those blues yet champ?

Short answer: promising. I put 6 packs on them on them on high traction granite. As with any new tire they were audibly and visibly poppy and hoppy with decent bite. Another 10 packs and the leading angled edge of the lugs will be a bevel. At that point I think they will be at their best blend of forward response due to broken traction (hunt) vs vertical response to broken traction (hop). I siped them as I have done all of my silvers FYI.

Like a dummy I messed up one while reducing it so I have 7 tires now. It's the first one I botched so I guess it was a matter of time. I'll need to get one more in order to build/wear a comp ready set once I've defined optimum wear.

Did I miss anything?
