Holmes Hobbies Puller 500 Motors

Yesterday a care package arrived from far away. It was these beautiful motors from JRH with a bunch o' springs, brushes and decals. What a great surprise.





He told me they were puller 500s but the devil is in the details. I'll let him chime in and give us the tech and performance skinny. In the meantime they are incredibly light vs. my Team Flow 30T 540's. This pair of 500s weighs 251.38g vs my 540s at 368.28g. That's a weight reduction of 116.9g or 4.12oz (quarter pound with cheeze!!!) between the pair. Damn. Wow. This would put my rig at ~4lb, 9oz. I'm really looking forward to putting this in my rig and shaking them out. I'll keep y'all posted. Thanks again John. Awesome.

Holmes Hobbies Puller 500 Motors = Traction Control

Finally installed the motors John sent me last week. Their specifications are below for those that don't feel like reading the earlier post.

First impression: WOW:shock:! The big wow is the low speed resolution. The start up control is unreal compared to my previous versions (540/30T Flows/FB12). The weight reduction is pretty significant as well. Due to its weight my rig did not downhill as well as the rolling feathers out there. These motors changed that instantly. The resolution at sub-crawl is so good it acts just like traction control on descents. Nuts! I absolutely love the smooth, quiet sound of them as well. As with all change there is compromise. The motors don't quite have the instant torque from a dead stop or the top speed of my previous motors. Battery life is reduced a little bit as well.







I've never run out of juice on course so less runtime may not be that big of an issue. Because they are so light, the cans will not be as tough as the old ones as well and I'll need to find an alternative to teflon skids to protects the endbell guts. So with these compromises in mind John and I are working to get a little bit of that dead stop torque and top speed back while maintaining this insane resolution. I'll accept a little more weight to achieve this so we should be able to find a happy medium. All in all I'm very happy with these motors and I'll run them for a while to thoroughly shake them out. Man these motors have been an eye opener. Thanks JRH"thumbsup"!

That's from a long time ago. Dig back in this thread (post#7). Since the motor is elevated in to fit the servo between the motor and axle tube, there was 0.25" of tranny hanging down that I chopped off. The plate is the new bottom to cover the hole.
