Redcat’s RDS platform is in the stable, bought it on their super sale and just couldn’t pass it up. So far I have about 3 hours total playing and driving.

With many to choose from in this category, Traxxas new 4-tec drift was tempting, just because it was new but didn’t like the tub chassis, which largely lent me to MST, Yokomo. Having Yokomo off-road buggies in the past I was leaning toward that way. But all of which the chassis were similar and had many of the same features, likewise with the RDS.

The good - the price was unbeatable even with a RTR. Decent looking body. Adjustability for everything beyond belief. Gyro included, 60a esc, 3300kv brushless, drift spec servo, etc… Carbon chassis, shock towers and motor mount are nice features and are really what sealed the deal.

The bad - carbon main plate may be a little thin compared to others, haven’t measured it but it’s not like it’s doing 40mph and needs to be super rigid. The shock towers are the same but would have liked those a little beefier because the schools actually work like they should. Plastics may be a tad bit too forgiving but that’s actually helped me for when it slides uncontrollable into my gym bleachers. Talking about uncontrollable slides the tires feel much better on short carpet or polished concrete. In my gym they are just too hard of a compound. I do realize that most who buy this will be outside and they work just fine for that. I’ll be looking at different tires for my purposes, luckily they are cheaper that other tires in this hobby for a full set. The worst part maybe might be the aftermarket support is almost non existent from what I can find other through redcat, I’m loooking at the aluminum trans case and steering system when the time comes.

As the bad seems like a novel I honestly can’t complain much about it. It’s a blast to drive!

Pics coming soon…

I've read the best upgrade for these cars is to switch to Yokomo rod ends. Apparently the Red Cat ends can be sticky and cause friction.

Quick update, honestly have not done any tweaking on any of it except for the gyro. I’ve used 2s standard size packs as they fit nice in the holders and add a bit of weight or kick around and The 3s - 1200 & 2200mah sizes. The difference between them is obviously power delivery depending on surface. The rougher the surface the more power is needed. 2s covers every surface I have done with it, hardwood, poly, short carpet squares and polished concrete. I have about 30-35 full battery packs through it and see no signs of wear other than the tires. Plastic is holding up well, carbon still looks nice.

Eager to hear how you're fairing. Like you, couldn't pass up the deal. Didn't grab the RTR though it was only 220. Grabbed the kit at 100. But I have a servo I can put into it already, and an esc/motor I think I can make work, XR10 and a Maclan 13.5 I think.
Just need to grab a drifty gyro for it.

It has held up pretty well, even a few students have driven it with good success figure 8 and chicane lines. There is an indoor track on the other side of the town that have racing indoor drift and outside parking lot TC. I’ve test driven MST and Yokomo recently and with the amount of time I couldn’t really tell the subtle differences with the time I had. Like with most things tires make the difference there, theirs were a bit softer. I don’t have the appropriate time to make it back over there alone or with the family. Shocks are still holding up, no leaking. Tires are still okay for my locations but needed to be glued to the rim. It has definitely been a fun drive.

I think Redcat needs to reduce the price of these. They had the kits on sale for $99.99 and I saw a bunch of people take the chance. They are back up to $199.99 and at that price there are so many other and more well-known options.

I would really like to get a one twenty four drifter. They look like fun, anymore updates on your car?
They're as much as 1/10th scale drifters! I have had great luck with my LDRC 1/18 RX-7. I won't hijack this thread too much, but you can check mine out in my thread here:

No real updates, just drive time is increasing. Trying to balance play and workout during my prep time, but paperwork has my attention with the new start of the quarter/semester.

As far as 1/24 drivers there really is not any that I can think of. There are a few micros Amazon.com: YounggDiy Remote Control Sports Gyro Car, 1/43 Scale 2.4G Full Proportional RC Electric Mini Racing Drift Car Model with Lights Kit (Gyro Version) : Toys & Games that are intriguing. The price is right too.

For small scale I would suggest a WPL d12 to start, It’s more 1/18 though. They are super cheap and fun to drive.

WLToys has a 1/28 series (k989, k969, 284131). I have 3 of them in a cart waiting to buy for indoor play. They are 4wd but if you have a printer you can make it to 2wd. Not to say you can’t drift 4wd, 2wd allows you to slide more and not get pulled through a turn. They also have upgrades and support products available that are standard hobby grade components.

Jeez, those WPL look amazing for the price.
Detail on the price. On the cheap ones run the plastic bushings till you can’t handle the slop then upgrade (and cheaply) to all drivetrain to metal and bearings. Or get the KM versions and put a little bit more $ up front. Standard electronics work just fine. I have 370 motors in a few and 280s in others. Articulation stinks with but moves smoothly with the metal links.

24th Onisinki Daruma, Drift Art and some other high end rigs that are ya, as much as 1/10ths but at 1/24, your body choice is almost unlimited as many Model Car bodies are 1 24 or 25 and some of these rigs can be adjusted a smidge smaller/bigger.

Thank you! My Google foo sucked at finding another manufacturer. I need to make a trip to Chico…
If you're in Cali, look up SuperG Drift. They have a shop and track but Im in Michigan and that's the best I got. lol
No Red Cat parts so no build for me till after Monday. They got to my local, but at 8am this morning after the trucks left for the day. Of Course.

That’s even closer than Chico but on the way to a friends house when I head down south.

I saw some of the goodies you got the other day. Looking pretty good!
