Servo Shopping.

I was honest and told him my electronics setup. No pushback yet. He requested I send the servo in so I'll do that tomorrow.

The 1tenth servo is at home waiting for me. Glad I placed that order since I dont have any spare servos sitting around and I didnt feel like stealing one from another truck.

I've found the ECO Power servos to be a killer value if you're running your servo off RX power.

They're about $70, can be run on 7.4V and have satisfactory torque / speed for either 1.9 wheeled or 1.55 wheeled vehicles.

The WP120T or WP110T are different versions of the same servo. One is faster (110T) & the other has more torque (120T). Both are waterproof.

They're not a "wow" servo, but they're cheap, reliable and get the job done.

Got my replacement from NSDRC yesterday. I was kind of surprised it was an orange one...guess he held onto a few for this particular situation. I'll keep this in my bag as a spare for now. Not sure what I'll do when the Holmes servos are released. Might wait a little bit to see how they do.

Finally powered up my orange 700 V2 last night. I haven't soldered in years and I've done it two nights in a row this week. I got one of those NSDRC voltage buster diodes because of your warning post so thanks again for the tip!

The new Holmes shv650Lp servo is now available on their website.

Ordered mine. Hope to get it installed next week. I expect it will be even better than the 2 older HH shv650 servos that I've had zero issues with.

I have 3 of the standard size SHV650s and had great luck with them. I want to try one but at $170, I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger.

ETA I bought one. Crawlapalooza is coming up soon and I want to make sure I've got good servos.

The irrational thinking we do when it comes to RC is summed up right here! :ROFLMAO:

Once you go to the best servos, it's hard to go back to the cheap-o's.

If i lose i want it to be because i was outclassed. Losing because a part failed really sucks, especially if i was having a good run prior to the failure. I don't fully trust my nsdrc stuff at this point.

Got the Holmes servo installed yesterday. Very nice looking servo. Just messing around on the bench, it feels a tiny bit faster than the RS700V2. It is nice and quiet. According to specs, it isnt quite as strong as the RS700V2, but its often said that the NSDRC ratings are a bit inflated. My standard size SHV650 felt more powerful than the RS700V2 but it was not rated as such. I dont have any way to measure torque except by feel on the rocks and that will be later this week. Season finale for one of the local clubs is Saturday but I hope to get down there and practice a little either Thursday or Friday.

Not off to a promising start with the shv650. I'm getting the final touches done in preparation for crawlapalooza. While putting my C1 away, i noticed the steering felt very stiff. Quick look didnt see anything obvious so i disconnected the drag link from the knuckle. Wheels turned freely, servo hard to move. Removed servo horn, powered up the truck, and cycled the steering a few times and then it stopped working. Servo was hot to the touch. Dammit.

Sad part is this truck is not the one that ate the nsdrc servos. This servo made it two comps.

Hopefully it's a fluke and not a sign of things to come, again, with Holmes servos. But you shouldn't have any trouble getting Holmes to warranty your servo. Hopefully they do it ASAP and they aren't out of stock.

I ran one of the old SHV650s for about a year on my SCX10 Pro. It took a beating and never had a problem. Running one in my TTC truck and my VRD Carbon now and they are also doing fine.

Holmes got back to me quickly and sent me a prepaid shipping label to return it.

And that great customer service is why we pay for quality products from domestic companies.

I got tracking info for the replacement servo last night. Should have it Thursday.
Wait, how long did it take you to get your replacement?

Hitec released a new servo that looks to be a great option for crawlers. It says it can handle up to 8.4V, but they only publish specs up to 7.4V.

Model: DB950SW
Price: $139.99
Operating Voltage: 4.8V ~ 6.0V ~ 7.4V
Torque (oz/in): 486 ~ 555 ~ 555
Speed (at 60°): 0.23 ~ 0.17 ~ 0.14

It was supposed to be here yesterday, which would have been 8 days since I shipped mine off. USPS is doing USPS things though and it is still sitting in MO. I probably could have walked up there by now.

That Hitec servo is sad. Plastic case, slow AF, and 555 oz of torque? Is it 2010 again?

8 days total is not bad.

The thing is it is probably a true 555 oz-in of torque and not the China 800 oz-in that's more like 400 oz-in. You have a point with the half plastic case, but I've never broken a servo case even if they are plastic.
