I would like to put a brushless system in my trail truck and all I have is a sensorless system. Would gearing it way down get rid of the cogging issue sensorless systems have or should I save my money and get a sensored system? Thanks in advance.

I'd do both. That way you can run it until you get a decent sensored set up. I don't know if gearing it way down would help the cogging though.

What kv is it? Knowing that is a good place to start :) .

If it's relatively low though, it should be perfectly possible. I'm currently running a 2900kv motor on 3s (sensor less), and wit some gear reduction there's no noticeable cogging whatsoever.

Higher kv would probably not work as well.

I'm sure JRH and others will chime in, just wanted to give my personal experience with that kind of setup.

If you can gear it way down it will have little to no cogging. My daughters twin hammers has a vxl system in it and I was surprised it didn't cog geared 20/78 on 3s in low gear. My scx10 has a HH trailmaster 3100 and it only has minimal cogging geared 56/11 on 3s with sensor wire unplugged. So it is very doable. I would only run that setup for trail running and just playing around.

It's a higher kv motor. Most likely would cog no mater what I do, 3800 kv, that's the lower of the two I have. I'll save up for a sensored system. Thanks for the replies.

My sensored two pole 1870Kv motor was (in my opinion) cogging too bad even at the lowest gearing available.
I know some people have had success using outrunners (14+ poles) with minimal cogging.

iv ran the sensorless motors and they seem to always cog at lower speeds. but it will work until you save up and get a sensorless one
