Hello All,

To begin my build thread I will toss out what initiated this build. I was released from the hospital last Monday after spending a week in there post surgery. I had a partial amputation of my right foot done. Needless to say I am going to be laid up for a while! So I figured to keep my sanity I would do another build.

In attempt to keep costs down (yeah right!) I am going to sacrifice my deadbolt build I did last year. I will be pulling the motor, trans, axles, winch, wheels, and scale goods from the rig.

I was scouting out Facebook groups and found a custom truggy frame I really like as a base. I really like how it also has an in cab cage in addition to the external. It was purpose built for the Mojave cab.

This build will probably take several weeks but I think it will turn out well. This rig will not be a trail truck but a crawler. I love the technical aspects of crawling and tuning the rig.

I have been wanting to do a yota build since a few months back I bought my 2013 Tacoma. :-)

Hopefully some of you will chime in on this thread as the build progresses!

Parts being pulled from the Deadbolt:

Front Axel:

SSD Diamond
SSD High Clearance steering kit
Axial CVD's
Brass patties
Axial HD gear set (stock ratio)
LURC FI steel spool

Rear Axel:

SSD Diamond
Axial shafts
Brass Patties
LURC FI steel Spool
Axial HD gear set (stock ratio)

Transmission:

Yeah Racing aluminum case
Hot Racing steel gear set

Motor:

Holmes 35t torqmaster expert

Winch:

RC4WD 9.5
RC4WD Wired Controller

RX/TX

Spectrum DX4S

Obviously the Axel's and transmission will be tore down for re-grease. At that time all bearings will be replaced with Fast Eddy sealed bearings. Transmission will be getting LURC steel outputs as well.

Looks like a great start! I wish you a speedy recovery"thumbsup"
Thank you sir! Really looking forward to this build. Parts are arriving daily, just not in the order I had hoped for. I should be able to dive in full steam within the next couple of days.

Well enough parts have shown up over the past couple of days to get started on this build! I am working on stripping down the deadbolt and then I can rebuild/upgrade the transmission and rebuild both front and rear SSD Axel's.

All the parts have been pulled from the Deadbolt. Up next, transmission rebuild.

The transmission currently has a YR aluminum case, and a Hot Racing steel gearset.

I will be replacing all bearings with Fast Eddy's. Also adding a Robinson Racing steel 56t 32p spur gear, and LURC steel outputs. That should keep it solid for some time to come.

Nice pile of parts! Looks like a quality rebuild.
I wish you the best for your recovery!

ps: I like your deadbolt body as well "thumbsup"

Thanks! I really liked the Deadbolt too. It was a really good performing truck. Ithink this rig is going to be much better though. I've been wanting to do a hard body build for a while now.

Some more progress made. Transmission is done. The LURC steel outputs are a huge difference from the wimpy stock pieces. I really like the Robinson steel spur, quality piece! Sure did add some weight to the trans. Which got me thinking. With dirt bikes you add weight to the flywheel to make the bike really tractor at low RPM. So I wonder if that would be the same case here with the heavy spur? I would think so.

Completed the bearings in the SSD Diamonds. They are smooth as butta! :-D I also decided to reassemble with stainless screws. I really like the look!

Like pre-faded blue jeans the axles are pre-rockrashed. Does that add scale points? Lol.

Hopefully more parts arrive today and I can keep up the momentum. Still fall on my face every few hours after this surgery.

Started doing mock up today and figure out where my electronics are going to hide. This is my first truggy style build. Packing all the electronics is such a small space has proven interesting. I hope to squeeze in a decent interior at some point. I have a beata down cab to use for this thankfully. I will paint and detail a fresh cab once I have this thing in roller status. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to best mount the bomber style rear UC light bar and rear radiator behind the cab. I have a couple of ideas I am going to try.

Steady stream of parts coming in so that has me excited to push forward.

Although slow, progress is being made. I'm in the process of working on the chassis. Made some changes and fabed up a battery tray that will hold my 5000mah packs. Just waiting on a couple of parts so I can get it in to a roller before painting the chassis.

She's a roller!! Took some doing but she's sitting pretty nice now. Everything is smooth, no binding anywhere. Used MIP drive shafts, derlin high clearance skid, stainless high clearance links, and a set of proline 6063 shocks. Really like these over the scalers, the higher oil capacity alone makes them alone. I did have to use softer springs, and I have more springs to fine tune with. Currently have about 30% droop.

While it doesn't seem like much progress has been made, there really has. I got a couple sheets of Hot Racing scale diamond plate. I measured and created a template and lined part of the rear cage. Mounted my rear light bar, radiator, and fuel cell to the diamond plate.

Been a crazy week so I haven't had much free time to work on the rig. My new yota body arrived from RC4WD along with a set of Proline dual stage foams.

I started trimming the body to clear the spur gear as well as the grill to fit over the frame. As it sits I will definitely have to cut the fenders out for clearance. I am tossing around the idea of pinching the hood. What are your thoughts? Ya or nay?

I also mounted a new set of flat irons along with the dual stage foams. I think I finally figured out where all my electronics will live. I was struggling with a place for the esc. I got pretty creative and found a spot for it out of the way. Now to finish up body work. Cut fenders, drill the roof to mount the light bar, patch unused holes, prime, and paint.

Couldn't resist, broke it in a little. Did very well right out of the gate. Program the esc and I think it will be 100%
