San Diego RC Crawlers

Crawling Friday and Saturday

Alright, here's where Cheatin' and I (and maybe Neil) will be on Friday and Saturday;

Friday late morning / early aternoon - Cactus Park in Lakeside. The address is :
Cactus Park B M X
10610 Ashwood St, Lakeside, CA

Google it or take 8 east to 67 north to Mapleview (stop light where the Rodeo Grounds are). Turn right then turn left at Ashwood (next light east). The entrance is just past El Capitan high school on the left - turn into the parking area on the left and park by the bathrooms. Look for the rock pile in the corner up to the right of the bathrooms. This spot has good crawling now, and will be really good once we do a bit of weed wacking.

Saturday - Felicita at the usual time.

The more the merrier..

Cactus Park is really cool and has big potential once it's cleaned up a bit. I'm bringing the weed wacker and a couple of rakes. The gate at Cactus opens at 9:30.

So is that the BMX track? Because I've been there before and I know where that is.

Cheatin I think I know what you mean about trimming the body better.. you must have some good eyes to catch that, especially on that crappy video quality.

The BMX track entrance is correct, but once inside you go left instead of right right where the BMX track is. The rocks are in the corner of the property closest to the road and the high school. You will be surprised how big a rock area is hiding there.

Just a quick question, do any of you guys take your crawlers out to the Santee Boulders, or into Mission trails to crawl? Do these places even still exist??

The Santee Boulders is a place we used to go practice free rock climbing when I lived in La Mesa, I believe these are the GPS coordinates, (32.850633, -117.021126) it's right near West Hills High School. I remember a lot of potential for R/C there, but it's been YEARS since I was there. Another place we used to go is here, (32.872397, -116.965492) parking was harder, but it was a fun place too.

Oh, and what about Mt. Woodson?

Walked the Santee Boulders but did not see lots of potential for 1:10 scale use. Used to hike Mt. Woodson years ago, but haven't been in years. There are incredible places all around my house in Eucalyptus Hills, but they are all private property, usually fenced.

There is a good spot at the east end of Mission Gorge up behind the Iowa Porker place (especially the top), and the rocks at Cactus Park are very good. I'm keeping my eyes open for any other places we can easily access.

Cheatin' showed me the ampitheater at the Mission Trail Visitor Center (west end entrance near Jackson) that's fun for a pack or so, but he says you get chased away everywhere else on the trails now.

I don't have any, but, in the middle, there's a rock that goes up almost to a second story. Pretty cool climb and decent back down. There's also a ton of cool stuff waiting to be weed wacked free.

Don and I are headed out to Cactus park and hopefully meet up with Ty and Anthony. We are also bringing along Greg to document the Crawling on video.

Cactus Park

Thanks to all who made the trip out to Cactus Park today. Cheatin' and I are glad you liked the place. As soon as we can find "Ed the Head Ranger", we'll see if we can do more brush clearing. Plenty of fun stuff as is is, yes?

In fact, everyone agreed to meet here again tommorow. So Quattros and Raul and anybody else interested - gates open at 9:30, and the directions are a the top of this page.

See you there.

Misty Morning Report

Hey all -

It's a bit misty this morning, but I see some blue patches and the Weather channel says cloudy with very little chance of precipitation countywide. Might be a bit damp early, but should dry later in the morning.

So I'll be there when the gates open. Cheatin' and I are bringing out one of our RC / Slot Car buddies to see if we can get him hopelessly addicted along with the rest of us.

Ty

Changin the veneu last minute huh, oh well looks like a good enough place to crawl, maybe next time. Quattros you going up to the comp next saturday, if so give me a ring.

The floodgates open?

Hobby People (California's Hobby Wal-Mart) now sells the Axial AX10 Scorpion Kit and stock replacement parts. With so many casual customers now being exposed to the idea of Crawling, participation in the genre is certain to increase.

I left a very positive review for the kit on the Hobby People website (let's see if they approve it), and wonder how soon we'll see some new folks snooping around these forums.
