I might go check that out this weekend. It looks to be about 15 minutes from my house in Escondido.

It's a cool little spot. Nothing crazy. Took the ascent 18 and it was a little more fun. There is a small loop you can hike maybe half to 3/4 of a mile. That was fun with the gen8.
My 15 year old son & I went there today. We crossed the river and drove towards Carlsbad then turned back. That rocky section by the river was fun.
The ranger was there today but he ignored us.

Nice! That crossing is just only slightly sketchy carrying the rig and remote huh?? lol That spot is cool even on a hot day as well. mostly shade
Yea they don't seem to be minding. Just pick up after yourself and don't go to far off trail.
Going to try to drive around and post up some spots I find along the way.
Yeah, the crossing was so sketchy that I wouldn't have tried it alone carrying a truck and radio.
My son crossed first with nothing and met me in the middle. I passed the rigs / radios to him, then I finished crossing with nothing.
And yes, the shade will make that an ideal summertime spot. I drove my Miller Motorsports but my Bronco would have been more fun. There isn't much room for speed in there.

If you turn left instead of right. And go across the other crossing there is a half mile maybe hike that a little rock bouncing might be doable. And still some fun spots for crawling as you go.

2 Spots I would like to share from the last couple weeks.
poway lake. fee for non residents. But plenty of things to do for the family. Good for large scale but really good for small scale. picture is a small section. lots of other spots around the lake

Hey I'm going to be in Encinitas in a few weeks. Are there any good crawl spots around? I have a free Sunday afternoon while there.
For trailing, hit up the La Costa trail network in Carlsbad. Once there, hit the Switchbacks or Drop Down trails for some good trailing / crawling.
For just crawling (gate dodging), I don't know of any spots in North County.

Calaveras is mostly flat, sand trails. Not much to crawl on out there.
By the beach... South Ponto in Carlsbad has some fun, challenging sand trails. Deep sand mixed with hardpack and very steep. Bring a mud / sand tire for that. Not much rocks there.
We don't really have rocky trails by the beach in North County. But in San Diego, you've got Sunset Cliffs and Point Loma in case you want to make the drive. Then you'd actually get some rock crawling near the ocean.

It has two trails that go to the peak (calaveras crest) 1 on each side. Great crawling according to some coworkers. Have not gone myself. Just a long walk in either direction to get there.

Got it, so not much for beach crawling. Maybe I won't bring the rig down. I'll really only have Sunday afternoon to take it out. Thanks for the pin drop on locations!
The mountain at Calaveras probably does have good crawling. But as the Nurple said, you have to traverse a lot of flat ground in order to get to that mountain.
You'd want a backpack on so you could ride a bike out to the mountain.
