I might go check that out this weekend. It looks to be about 15 minutes from my house in Escondido.

My 15 year old son & I went there today. We crossed the river and drove towards Carlsbad then turned back. That rocky section by the river was fun.
The ranger was there today but he ignored us.
Yeah, the crossing was so sketchy that I wouldn't have tried it alone carrying a truck and radio.
My son crossed first with nothing and met me in the middle. I passed the rigs / radios to him, then I finished crossing with nothing.
And yes, the shade will make that an ideal summertime spot. I drove my Miller Motorsports but my Bronco would have been more fun. There isn't much room for speed in there.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'll be bringing my vrd. I heard lake calavera might have some trails too. Anything near the beach? For trailing, hit up the La Costa trail network in Carlsbad. Once there, hit the Switchbacks or Drop Down trails for some good trailing / crawling.
For just crawling (gate dodging), I don't know of any spots in North County.
It has two trails that go to the peak (calaveras crest) 1 on each side. Great crawling according to some coworkers. Have not gone myself. Just a long walk in either direction to get there. Thanks for the recommendations! I'll be bringing my vrd. I heard lake calavera might have some trails too. Anything near the beach?
