Round in the Chamber Check

Always loaded. If it's a pistol I know is empty, I just rack the slide and do a visual check anyway. If it was loaded, guess what - a round will pop out. "thumbsup"

if I know it's loaded but want to check anyway, just pull slide back enough for visual of a case and let go.

I am just a little surprised at the attitude, I know what is in mine so I don't check them. I guess it is just a difference in how your were taught. To me, all guns, including mine, are always assumed to have on in the chamber and they are treated so until they are checked.

I don't "check" mine because it only comes out of the holster for cleaning and firing. Either way, I know there's a round in the chamber. Which way it comes out depends on whether I'm at the range or home, or (hopefully not) defending persons, with it. Now, if someone is handing me theirs, then yeah, I'll check. Firing hand on the grip without trigger being touched. Left hand over the top of slide,two-finger grip, behind ejection port. Gun held low and down, directly in front of me, so I can see into the chamber.... Unless we're talking revolvers. ;-)

And even when I know they are clear, I still treat all firearms as if they are loaded. Col. Cooper's rules.
