10 Ton Tina: RockChuck's C2 Build

This is pretty much my first year in scale crawling. Learned a lot of things with my class 3 build/TTC monster. Had a lot of fun. Now I decided I wanted to build a competition scale class 2 truck. I started with a frame and a pair of scx axles.

Axles got the usual upgrades, front got beef tubes, overdrive gears, xr mod with a custom draglink and tie rod.

The rear axle I left alone for the time being besides the axial aluminum lockouts.

I started with the chassis by adding a GCM front motor conversion and cms kit

Then I picked up a hardbody silverado. (Long story behind that body) with a paint scheme I was far from fond of.

So I stripped it and started planning

I then changed up the wheel and tire package and went to pitbulls instead of the boggers.

Then I started thinking outside the box, I wanted a lot of ground clearance and wanted my links to keep clear of rocks as well as each other. With a 12" wheel base I got a little creative with my custom stainless revo rod end links.

Then I did a little paint work and took a few shots for reference

I did trim it a bit. Haha

Then I had a comp come up and I had to run the lexan chevy body since the Silverado body wasn't mounted or ready.

I found out 2 things at the comp

#1 my HH 3300kv setup was WAY too much power for a scaler

#2 the stock foams in the pitbulls are waaaaaay too soft

I ended up having the front housing break right after the last picture and was out of the comp. Fixed it this time.

Our comps are a month apart so I went to work right after the April comp and went on an ordering spree. Holmes BRXL/ 30t crawl master pro setup. KMS K2/HeyOK 4 amp relay.

I also needed a place to mount the battery since I was going tube bed style. So I made a battery box.

I then started the tube work on the back end.

Had a comp this weekend. I was up till 3:30AM the night before. I was up at 6:45 to get to the comp by 8am to setup. We had a HUGE turnout of 30 rigs! We only ran class 2 and class 3 but it took ALL day!

Here's the pics.

Truck did well but I want to widen the stance a bit I need to remember to locktite all my stuff!!!! Ugh I had a steering linkage come loose and it cost me. I took 8th in class 2 and 4th in class 3.

Finally brought my gear inside from the comp. I had a winch malfunction. My brand new winch quit working completely at the comp after a member jokingly asked me to show it off. I was devastated that I paid the money for what was supposed to be the best and it failed first time out! -.- so I brought it inside after I got off work on Tuesday and pulled it apart. I thought maybe the heyok controller quit on me, but after testing the winch motor directly on the battery it didn't move. So I took it all apart and found that the motor was tough to turn and rough. I took apart another servo I had laying around with a higher tq and speed rating. I compared the size and the top gear and figured I could make the other motor work. And work it did!!!! It's waaaaaaay faster and stronger. It doesn't bog even with my 7lbs scaler on the end of the line dangling. I'm back to being happy. So I played a little today at my house.

really nice build man. I really need to learn how to build my own cage stuff, I dont even know were to start lol

Thanks! I'm not a pro at building cages, i find a style I like and draw it, draw it again, and again. Haha I get to know what I'm looking to build and I dive in. Keeping it all square and perpendicular is really the most challenging part. Here's some of my other cage work.
Second cage I built.

I don't braze, I use a mig welder. I tried brazing an I wasn't good at it. Haha. I'm going to try my hand at TIG welding my next cage
