Revo 3.3 to brushless what size motor?

Has any body here done this ? And what kv motor did you get that gives it the brushless power and speed but not so much that it just explodes?
 
I'd recommend something like the caslte 1415 motor. Its a 3670 2400kv motor, kinda between 10th scale and 8th scale. Its an expensive sensored motor though. There are plenty of cheaper 3660 to 3674 sized sensorless motors from China on ebay and Amazon. Somewhere between 2200kv to 2400kv would be the way to go.

Sensored has more fine control, especially on lower revs. But..they’re usually not too fond of water. Non-sensored motors mostly don’t care. Just let dry, and oil the bearings after playing ‘submarine’

And, for a big, heavy machine like the 3.3, a 1/8 scale non-sensored between 2200 and 2500kv and 4s is the way to go. 6s will start asploding parts pretty quickly. I have repaired quite a few converted Revo’s who’s diffs - even ‘stronger’ after market ones- were totally shattered when people - against all advice- insísted on using 6s.
The gears don’t like the sudden burst of power a brushless can give instantly. They are meant for 3.3cc motors with a narrower powerband that -due to the clutch- comes in somewhat more gradually, and nèver slam as hard on the gears as a big high-volt electric motor can.

( funny anecdote as an illustration : Tesla’s first Roadster prototypes kept breaking even the sturdiest gearboxes, due to sheer instant torque. Until Tesla designed their own, specifically strengthened single-speed gearbox. Electrics just do that.. )
