This weeks work rant (carries over from last week): kind of a long read, even after summarizing...
We sold an rv to an out-of-state customer, and made arrangements to have it delivered. Along the way, the driver hit something and caused quite a bit of damage, and played ignorant when he arrived. Needless to say, the customer saw it, and we instructed them to have it returned for repairs.
It's inspected, estimate written, and a very unreasonable timeline put forth to get it back on it's way. Can you wedge in a 70 hour job into an already tight work schedule? No, not really. Parts are fast tracked.
Parts arrive, work commences. The boss is insistent that we meet the deadline. I repeat that it will not happen. Can not happen. Physically impossible. I need two more days. Realize that not all of the parts were ordered, fast track what is missing. Work at a dangerously fast pace.
Pickup is scheduled for first thing in the morning of the day I said it would be done. It won't be done first thing in the morning. Fine, the driver is standing by and will be here at noon. Fine. Furiously thrash to completion.
Noon comes around and I'm done. Driver is a no show. 5:30pm and still no driver. Next morning, no driver. 5:30pm, no driver. Next morning, rv is gone and on it's way to the customer.
Next afternoon, customer is on the phone and furious. Sends pictures. Among several complaints, they claim unnoticed water damage from the accident, we see a hyper-critical inspection of a used rv with normal wear-and-tear that has nothing to do with the accident. There were two legitimate complaints, of which I took full responsibility for. Really good or really fast, I can't do both. Either way, both were minor over-sites.
We offer to have the rv returned and give them a full refund. They refuse and suggest we send them thousands in cash to have it repaired to their liking. We refuse, and suggest having it returned to us once again for inspection/correction. They agree.
We confirm what was in the pictures (non to minor issues), and inform them that we will cancel the sale and they will be receiving a full refund. Bomb goes off. They contact a local news station claiming that they get ripped off, news station wants to do an investigation.
News station should be talking to the sales manager tomorrow. It should be interesting...
