I just installed the SRS6000 receiver that came with the DX5C last night.
The antenna wire is inconveniently located on the opposite side of the receiver, so it doesn't feed straight up through the hole in the receiver cover; not a big deal, just something to note. It’s a tight fit and there is only one correct orientation for the receiver, if you want to continue to use the Redcat receiver cover.
The black plastic ends of the Redcat STR servo and ESC didn't plug directly into the SRS6000 without a little modification. I used a razor to shave away the little plastic key on one side of the connector and then it was still a tight fit.
The Redcat Hexfly STR servo is analog and the SRS6000 requires a digital servo. I knew this beforehand, but I was hoping that the Hexfly servo would function well enough until I could order a good replacement. Turns out that the SRS6000 and the Hexfly really don't play nice together at all. The servo has a non-stop "grindy" sound and doesn't rotate side-to-side very well.
I ordered a cheap ANNIMOS 20KG digital servo from Amazon as a quick and inexpensive stopgap. Between batteries, a charger, some tools, the truck and the new radio ... I've already blown my entire budget and then some!
Just wanted to share my experience with my new Gen 8 and my first upgrade!
Let me know if you have any experience with the SRS6000 and what steering servo you went with.
