Project "JERO" The Armored SCX

A few updates before I head to bed...

Frame has been shortened at the rear by 17mm, and the body is set in its approximate ride height.

Here are the pics...

Once the frame was cut I could slam the body on the frame...
Here is a front, side and rear view...

So far I am really pleased with the progress and I like the way it is turning out.

Thanks, comments and opinions are welcome.

I had some spare time today so I seized the opportunity and made some good progress on the hood armor/scoop.

I started with some triangles cut from .080" styrene to match the original lines of the hood...

DSCN3510.jpg

DSCN3515.jpg

I made the middle section of the armor, but then I decided to go another direction with the hood.
Again this piece is cut from .080" Styrene...

DSCN3518.jpg

I scored the styrene and gently broke it, as to have a sharp bend but not to have two pieces...

DSCN3521.jpg

When I decided to make it a hood scoop instead of a hood cowling, I broke the piece shown above the rest of the way and added the cuts for the scoop intake...

DSCN3524.jpg

I cut the scoop supports out of the same .080" styrene and sanded like crazy to get the proper fit.

DSCN3525.jpg

Here the supports have been welded to the hood...

DSCN3528.jpg

I found that potato chip bag clips great for clamps while waiting for bonds to set...

DSCN3529.jpg

Here is the hood with the top attached...

DSCN3530.jpg

I pulled out some .030" styrene for this next part in which I cut two more triangles for the sides of the scoop...

DSCN3532.jpg

Rough fit of the side panels...

DSCN3533.jpg

Here is a couple pics from the front of how it looks right now...
I am really pleased with how it is turning out. I have never attempted to use styrene before, but it is quite easy and fun to work with...

looks awsome!!!!!!!!!!! im ordering a jero tomorrow and ill b goin the same route
Thanks, the Pajero is cool because it is unique among 1.9 scalers or SCX guys. I will have to look for your build.

Where are you getting the Pajero body from? RPP shows out of stock...
I bought my Pj from RPP, in fact I am 99% positive I purchased the last one.... the in-stock status changed about 10 mins after I ordered mine.

Thanks to all who have posted so far...
Comments and opinions welcome...

Updates... I did more styrene work today and got the hood finished, the roof started, and made some progress on the side armor.

Here are the pictures:
Roof skin is made from .30"

I started on the side plates by cutting pieces out of .080" and .030"...

First I attached the .080"...

DSCN3543.jpg

I then cut a 1/4" border out of the .030"...

And attached it to the corresponding side...

More armor to come... Stay tuned and Thanks...

Updates! After I started the armor on the doors I wasn't 100% sold on the height of the doors, so I decided to chop the bottom 5/8" off. I think that it will look better this way. I plan to do metal boat-sides... Doing boat-sides helps clear up another issue...body mounting. I want this rig to be an hardcore off-road machine, so I will try to get every bit of body clearance I can afford without sacrificing the look.

There are a few other types of armored vehicles that have deflecting sides...
Here is an example of the armored boat-sides...

1-cobra.jpg

So now for the pictures of my progress...

I started by taping off the lower section of the door to be cut, then I used a X-acto knife to score the body. Once the body had been scored a hand-full of times I snapped the door and ended with a clean break.

Left and right after trimming the doors up...

Finally a shot with the body on the chassis...

Sorry for the blurry pictures  the camera is being weird...

nice look body cool scope
Thanks, I really like the way the scoop turned out.
sweet start!
Thanks for your support.

Comments and opinions are welcome, Thanks...

Small update...
I put more armor on the sides... I also figured out that I will be using 1/4" angle styrene for the armored fender flairs...

Pictures of Progress...

Base material is .080" like the other armor...
Top layer is .030"...

More updates coming.

Update, Side armor is done for now... and rear window armor is started.
I like the side armor and think that when the boat-sides are done it will all be tied together nicely.

I stared with some .080" styrene and cut it to match the style of the other two side panels... I finished the armor with .030" with the same 1/4" border. I will have to use some filler styrene to fill the gaps between the armor plates and the PJ body.

I borrowed some mini spring clamps from a buddy, they work great for holding things together...

The next part of the project was to start on the windows.
Here is the inner window face...
They are made from .030" styrene

I cut the center out with a 3/8" border.

I really like where this build is going...

Please let me know what you think, comments, opinions, and suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks

those rear window frames really make it.

+2! It really gives it the beef that it needs. I have wondered if anyone was ever gonna build one of those trucks styled after the ones from District 9, and this looks sickkkkkk. I also like the idea of the boatside armor... Someone will have to make a scale minefield for testing

i have been wanting to do something like this since i saw that movie. seeing you build this just gave me the drive to actually start!

your rig is going to be awesome!

Freaking BAD ASS!!! Very nice man!!! Ill be watching!! "thumbsup"

When I was watching D9, I was thinking to myself "I want to build one of those" you just gave me some much needed inspiration!!

This is COOL!!

Oh, if you ever sell it, I CALL FIRST DIBS

I got quite a bit done on the windows today. All the inner window faces are in and I think they look good. the next part that I will attempt to tackle is the outer window face. This will be made of thicker .040" instead of .030" styrene. I will place it on the exterior so it will frame the windows and give good structure for the thick lexan to be bolted through. I put up a drawing of what I thought I wanted to do with the headlights... I have changed my mind and will adapt a pair of Proline light-buckets to fit in the front. Once the styrene work for the windows is done I will concentrate on the roof, I will be adding a escape/gun hatch.

So here are the pictures of what progress I have on the windows...
All the windows have the same 3/8" border on the inner face.

On the doors there were spots for side mirrors, I decided to cut this away to make the windows look uniform...

I have ideas of what I would like to see, but the question is whether I can make it happen. I quess we'll see:)

There is one thing that I have always wanted... This project may be the perfect opportunity to get one...

Does anybody have a Browning that I can borrow to get measurements off of?8)

you have all kinds of armor all over the truck but, the rear window frames just have the look of "armor" "thumbsup"

cool build!

Thanks guys, I completely agree that the the windows completely transform the look.

Everytime I look at this thing all I can think of is "Transformers Robots in Disguise"

"thumbsup"I watched the second Transformers movie while I was working on this last week, I was probably subliminally receiving ideas from the film.

Thanks, that means a lot to hear that what I'm doing inspires/helps others

This is looking great so far, can't wait for the next updates.... "thumbsup"

Thanks, you guys are awesome.
