Original Tamiya Blackfoot tires

So I was looking around in the dark side of the basement, and came across some old boxes labeled "R/C Stuff". I looked inside, and I found my first R/C vehicle, an ORIGINAL Tamiya Blackfoot. I forgot I even had this thing. This thing is completely stock. After the initial excitement wore off, I really took a look at the thing; it has some SWEET tires! You guys have to remember these things. "All Traction Utility", hard as a rock. Well, I could not resist, I put them on a set of beadlocks and took them outside to the trail.

At first I thought this was going to be a bit of a laugh, 25 year old tires are not going to get me any where. Man, I was wrong. These things did surprisingly well on loose dirt and sand, but when I got them onto the rocks, I could not stop them. The tread is really open on the sides, but tight down the middle, they clear easily, and look great. The bad news: Tamiya has not made these tires since the mid 1990s. Somebody needs to "re-release" them in a new soft compound, they would make a fortune. Well, I just thought I'd throw that out there, maybe some of you guys would get a kick out of that.

MMmmmmm. Thorp diff huh? Nice. Well, i remember waaaaaay back in the day, my brother got his Blackfoot from a pawn shop. It already had a bunch of upgrades to it. One of the upgrades was some MUCH softer tires that were the same thread as the stockers. I have no idea who made them, but they were out there. All u need is 1.21 JiggaWatts and some piecer to go 88MPH.

I think the harder compound actually helps this tread. The big lugs grab a rock, and do not move, the truck just goes up. Plus, I am not wearing out a $50 set of tires every three months.

Aren't they just the same tire that also came on the Bruiser and the Mountaineer's ?

If so...I've seen a set of them sell for as cheap as 15 bux....and up.

They're too hard for my tastes...and not quite scale enough for the types of rigs that I like to build.

But...if they work for ya.....wear em out.

It's cool that you found your old truck tho....no way I would've forgot about having something that cool stashed away ! LOL

I also found my stadium blitzer, and Traxxas Sledgehammer back there. I guess I just got caught up in college and starting a real life.
