Vedder’s ‘Jero full vintage resto.

I boiled the tires and tried to work them by hand to get the flat spots out. They are much better but I’m not sure why I wasted time on them since I’ll be using a better performance tire anyway. I do like the look though. I also had some chrome Tamiya Pajero wheels that I tossed on for the time being. I really like the stance on this thing. It’s going to be a fun little trail rig.

Since I wanted to keep this fairly low budget I’m just going to use some old wheels and tires I had in my spare bin. Classic HPI 0 offset stock car wheels and some old skool Losi Bashers. Great grippy tire and slightly larger than stock. The Bashers aren’t the best looking tire but they should make trailing this rig a little easier for my 8 year old nephew.

Tear down of this 31 year old body begins. The inside of the roof is stamped Tamiya Metal Top Wide 1993. Kinda cool.

I’m going to trim the fender flares and bumpers slightly to be a hair more aggressive than stock and accommodate the larger and wider tires.

Oh, my, someone other than myself has a set of those tires on those wheels. Great gripping tire for as little "pattern" they have. Are those decals 9r stickers on the side or a plastic/metal placard? I've only owned the hmmvee and blackfoot extreme hardbody both used sticker decals. Paint looks brighter for some reason now too, lights? Have you decided on what color to repaint?

They are decals. I just peeled them off just now. Came off fairly easy for being so old. It’s probably the lighting on my workbench that’s making it look brighter. I’m still undecided on color.

Ever tried 100% PurplePower degreaser or that citrus smelly stuff?20241114_192340.jpg
I looked on the back and it says to test on an inconspicuous area as its not safe on all plastics. I'd try the PurplePower, if you have any available; iirc the paint will come off like a leather if you can soak a towel over the paint

Soak it in brakefluid for a while and see what happens.
Drain cleaner and an ultra sonic cleaner is another option that works well on enamels. (protect your eyes and hands)

Brake cleaner works but it does something to the plastic and makes it quite brittle afterwards. The paint that’s on now seems to be one thin layer so I think some sanding and primer I’ll be ok. I’m not trying to get it back to factory new white. Just want to repaint it. Thanks.
