Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

Just picked up a fat bike and should be selling my fs bike tomorrow. Looking forward to getting back to riding again.

^^YES, we want pics of the fat bike.

I'm happy to report that my tubeless conversion on the single speed worked out great. Took it for it's first test ride today, running about 28F / 30R and it made a noticeable difference in ride quality on the rigid SS, and gave some added traction also. Also the local trails that I struggled on in the very beginning on my 29er, which are now super boring on the 29er, are actually pretty fun and challenging on the SS. They're pretty tight in places, and suit the 650b well. I even made the climb that was my nemesis a few short months ago, took me a couple laps to make it though; damn tree crossing. :D I freaking love my SS!

I'm standing a little over half way up the climb here

I also found these online, and since the bike model is called the Bees Knees, I couldn't resist.

I borrowed a light setup from the bike shop owners, gonna give night riding a try this weekend if it isn't a washout. With winter coming soon, that's the only way I'll get in any rides during the week.

Nice, what light setup?

Nice, what light setup?

It's an older Nightpro Extreme HID setup. I'm currently looking at a few different light setups, including some that the shop carries. The magicshine being one of them, as well as xeotecc. Leaning towards the Xeotecc right now for bang for the buck based on reviews over at MTBR.

Went for another ride today, and finally climbed up to Timberline Rd, which overlooks the city. I've tried on a few occasions to do it, but couldn't.

This is an old quarry I went to that was nearby, supposedly there's a big crane or something that's sunk in the water. I've seen the boom of something sticking a bit out of the water before, but not sure what it was

And I've seen this sitting for years in this state, but when I'm driving by. But since I was biking, I was able to finally get a pic

Also, somebody else has money in this city since I saw a Ferrari 458 Italia...

Good stuff bacon! Nothing like getting over a hurdle, and putting that one past you. On to the next goal now!

I went out for my usual Sunday single speed ride today. I pushed harder today, and did about 10 miles total. I can tell I'm getting stronger, made some of the climbs sitting down and just felt better overall all day long. I have to say that on the right trail, the SS may just be my favorite way to spend time on a MTB. It's much harder, downright difficult for some things, and every muscle in my body is sore afterwards. But I feel like I've accomplished more at the end of the ride, and I know it's making me a stronger better rider. Or maybe it's just because it's new.

Went out for another ride today, longest one yet at 27.9 miles. I went to climb that hill again just to prove to myself that it wasn't a fluke, and also to climb it without having to stop halfway up like last time. It was definitely challenging going up without stopping, but was really rewarding when I got to the top. I took the ride today pretty easily, not really pushing myself, just enjoying the ride and scenery.

Where I started from again, our shit-tastic Moncton Coliseum

In between the two legs of the big Irving sign is the top of the climb...

View from the top. Yes, that's my old Airwalk biking jersey :ror:, not much to it in terms of material. It keeps you cool, but definitely not warm haha. It was a bit chilly today for just a t-shirt (I usually wear a Nike Dri-Fit)

Went to the quarry again, this time at the highest spot. Where the water turns dark, it just drops off there into the pit...

Found this thing there too, some vibrating table thing?

^^You're gonna have FUN!

Yep.

Not yet. It's been 100+ the past five days and I also have to work for the next two weeks. After that, I have like two weeks that I can ride the hell out of it before I go on vacation to Virginia.

We ride when it's 100F +...just not quite as fast. :ror:"thumbsup"

Watch your core temp, hydration and electrolytes when it's like that though. Salt Stick is good stuff:

I think I'm going to order a suspension fork for the SS. Even with the tubeless setup, my wrists and thumbs (yes, oddly enough, my thumbs are sore as hell after a ride, like they're getting jammed up) are suffering big time. I have a prior wrist injury from years ago that aggravates me on the MTB anyway, even on the 29er on longer rides. On the SS, it's just brutal in about 1/3 of the time. Looking at the Suntour Epicon (yes, yes I know Suntour). But it's one of the few I can find that offer; 80mm of travel, 1-1/8 straight steerer, lightweight, and remote lockout. They get good reviews and I can have it in two days for $240 shipped.

Hpi guy look into the manitou tower pro. It has all the things you are looking for and it's a great fork. You can also reshim the compression and rebound stacks to your liking.
