Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

^^Congrats to both of you on getting new bikes!

GoPro was pointed too far down today unfortunately, but here's a couple pics, and a short vid with my wipeout anyway.

just a lil worried about the size which is a medium or 19in, im 6ft and tried to get the nearest measurement as possible

Sounds about right, I'm 6'2" and ride a 19.5 frame. It all depends on the geometry of the frame though. Your bike shop should have fit you to the bike, did they not do so?

i had to order it and went by the sizing chart and iv gotta drive an hour to get to the bike shop theres nothing close

Yes.

Be sure when you go to pick it up, do not pick it up if it's not right or you're not sure. If you have to drive a long ways to another shop to double check fit, DO IT! Some bike brands have same geometry between bikes and this can be used to fit you on different frame if it has same geometry. "thumbsup" Standover is irrelevant, fit while riding the bike is what matters.

Very cool! Now you can be like me, stalking the UPS guy through the blinds waiting to get bike build night rolling. :lmao:

And I agree with Nate on having a professional fit done. If you get it way off, you can actually cause some physical pain, and in really bad cases an injury. Mainly knee injuries due to saddle height / fore and aft positioning. Once you get your fit done, buy one of those cheapo flexible sewing measuring tapes that reads MMs on one side, and measure the following and WRITE IT DOWN!

1. From the center of the steerer top cap bolt to the rear of saddle
2. From the center of a crank arm bolt following the seat tube up to the top of your saddle

Once you do that, you can make small adjustments to tailor the fit to you like a shorter stem, slightly lower saddle or slight fore / aft movement. I've fiddled with both my bikes from where my fitting session put me (again personal preferences on my part), and I'm much more comfortable now.

Is the UPS guy here yet?

Well, now I'm looking at an Intense Tracer or Carbine both in the foundation build kit which has X7/X9 derailleurs and X-fusion suspension. I really like the build kit and it has a really attractive price. The only thing is I can't tell the difference between the two other than The Carbine is carbon and the tracer is aluminum.:???:

its coming from fuji to performance bikes they wouldn't ship to me so I gotta pick it up there at performance bike

Well, the UPS guy showed up and I just got finished with the build. I had to machine a bit off the rear caliper mount to get rid of disc drag, and I added my own seatpost, saddle, bars, and grips. I also installed DMR chain tugs, and will get the 20T cog installed tomorrow at the shop. I left the 90mm stem on it for now, as it actually feels pretty good. Just need to check saddle measurements, get my rear cog installed and it's ready for it's first rip. Stays are 1/2" shorter than my 29er, so I bet it wheelies good  I'm excited!!

No idea what it weighs yet, probably around 28lbs being an XL 21" frame (see what I told ya about different frames and geometries?) single speed and chromoly frame. You need to make sure whatever component you want to replace is the same size; for example this bike runs a 27.2mm seatpost, so you'd need to order that size. Same on bars, stems, etc.

Well, I had a couple more minor issues with the SS. The 20T cog required a longer chain so I had to buy a new one, also one of my chain tugs was rubbing the freewheel on the hub, so I had to dremel it for clearance. I intended to hit the trails today, but it didn't happen due to those things. I did however ride it around the house some. So, take this with a grain of salt; I think I'm going to love this thing! If it feels anything like it did at home on the trails (it's a big difference, granted), then it feels like a big BMX bike that fits me properly, or pretty damn close. I swapped some more components around, and will get proper pics in it's native habitat this weekend. I can't freaking wait!!

^^LMFAO! Dammit, there was room to slide the axle forward more. I figured my cheap ass might be able to make it work. LOL

^^Very cool!

I had one helluva epic ride at DuPont state forest today. I have pics and video to come, just too tired to get to it tonight.
