Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

^^^ good job, that's awesome. I bet the Rattlesnake saw those Taco Socks and decided to leave you alone, fearing he'd end a pair of snake skin boots.

I finally made the decision on a bike after riding this. It's a 2013 Kona Process. It is used but I bought it from a family member I could trust. I have been pedaling around the neighborhood hills to get back into shape and heading out to ride some trails on Saturday.

I heard it and asked my friend if that was what I thought it was and he said yes and it's pissed off. We didn't even stop. Then we decided to go up a short, loose hill that I had to hike a bike:roll: and found a single track was good until you got to a point. I was doing good until I got to a off camber section and almost nutted myself. And there was so much cactus, almost like our area was built on top of ant hills in the middle of a cactus farm.

so me an the lady have been riding an shes been through a few seats looking for oponions shes not big but her A$$ eats them so it hurts LOL

I am in Austin for a work conference and I brought my bike. I rode the Barton Creek Greenbelt today. Not big elevation changes, but a lot of rocky technical stuff. Fun!!

Saddles (seats)....I've been through many bought, borrowed, test ride...none seam perfect...everybody's ass is different. I've found that Specialized is the best, they have the whole body geometry thing nailed down and are always improving it. I'm currently settled on Specy Henge on both MTBs (HT geared and rigid 29er SS), and Body Geometry Riva Road, w/ steel rails on my geared road bike: Specialized Bicycle Components

I like the road saddle better. Good chamois shorts (bibs are best because they stay up and don't squeeze your waist while breathing hard) are essential to azz comfort, get your sit-bones measured at a competent LBS and then look at saddles with similar width. Some LBS have rental/borrow/test ride with saddles which can save money.

Specialized saddles: Specialized Bicycle Components

Firmer (less padding) saddles are usually best once you get used to riding often, too much padding bunches up pinches skin and will rub your taint, inner thighs, you name it in a really bad way. WTB are some of my least favorite saddles because they all have too much padding imo and the shape don't work for me...but everybody is different and as you ride more you'll learn more about your body and what is good and what's not.

The best chamois lube ever, thanks Rockhugger! "thumbsup" Everything else is crap lol. Use enough but not so much that it's oozing out everywhere lol. Little on the inner thighs, taint and lower buttocks.

Bump! Raced again last weekend. Show-Me State Games Columbia, MO. Rock Bridge Park. Finished 4th in marathon(3hours) 35+(age) 4- 8 mile laps in 3:12. Good lap for me was 43min. Fast guys were doing 31-34min. laps. Had my first in race flat, cut a sidewall, tubed it and continued. Racing is sooo fun. You don't have to be super fast or have 10g bikes. Just show up, pass who you can, follow who you can't, and let the fast guys by.
This weekend is gonna be crazy. 6-hour marathon Tall Oak Challenge Jefferson City, MO. Running solo class, probably ride 2hrs. take a 30min. break, ride 2hrs. 30min. break, ride the last hour. Never rode this long so gonna be interesting.
Wish me luck. Happy trails everybody. Will report back if still alive, lol.

@ JeremyH - that looks like a fantastic ride!

@ RiceBurner - Good luck man! You've been doing great out there!

As far as saddles go, it is IMHO the hardest thing to get dialed on your bike. We all come in different shapes, sizes, etc so what feels great to me may be a torture rack to the next person. I will say since it's for your lady, make sure to look into a WSD (women's) saddle. Women tend to have slightly wider sit bones, and experience pressure in different areas vs men.

Yes, and Specialized is very good with body geometry and women's specific design! "thumbsup"

Is that the 153mm model? How are you liking it so far? The Process is on my short list for a new bike so Im curious how it climbs, I know its killer on the downs! Ive been without a DH bike for a year now and Im looking at getting a new all mountain/enduro bike with 5-6" of travel that can be pedaled up hill to the trails.

It is 150mm in back and 160mm up front so similar travel to the 153 that came out this year. It climbs great, was outrunning my cousin (who is in way better shape than I) on most the hills, he was riding his Kona Coiler. Pedal bob sitting down is unnoticeable and standing up it does a little as any longer travel bike would. It's a world of difference since I last rode all mountain bikes bike in the early 2000's. I think considering the price it's a great AM bike.

Decent is super fun, it's like a mini Stinky on the downhills. We went up to a lift serviced trail system (Mt. Hood Skibowl) that was rough as hell and the bike was right at home, my azz not so much had a good case of saddle rash for a few days. I was a little concerned in the bike park but the thing jumps and drops like a dream.

Only thing I wasn't thrilled about is the rear shock, I had to pump it up twice during our ride. I have read that's normal for that shock though so I am thinking of replacing it.

My bike stand showed up today, makes cleaning and maintaining my rides much easier. (yes, I know it's not a MTB in the stand)

Yes, happy wife, happy life... riding bikes. ;-)
WSD and definitely check the Speci. saddles.

X2... I never enjoyed riding my bike (after 40th mile) until I started riding their saddles.

Soo much awesome going on in here, I love tools of the trade. Next time post the appropriate machine!!! :flipoff::lmao:

P.S. smart putting it in the room with AC, I suggest getting a rubber mat or something to stand on, also to protect the hardwood floor when you drop tools.
