Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

Went on another small 7km rip today, now that the seat is adjusted right it was a lot better.

And the best part IMO

Congrats on the new bike man!! Throw a sheet over the back seat to prevent chain lube and such from getting in the interior. Throw the passenger seat forward and leave the seat back angled towards the windshield, remove the front wheel, drop the seat post (after marking where it's at), put the rear wheel behind you, and put the forks on the floorboard behind the passenger seat. It might fit, depends on the car.
Thanks man, it rides great. I was able to get it into the trunk, I just need to flip the rear seats down and take the front wheel off. It has to go in on it's side as there's not much room between the parcel tray (where the rear speakers are) and the back of the rear seats when folded. The front wheel once it's off goes right behind the passenger seat.

That seat looks really low. You must have some short legs. I got lucky and have some long ass legs. I might actually need to get a longer seat post. And for further possible questions from anyone wondering how to set seat height, when you sit on your bike your seat should be just high enough so that your leg is completely straight when you have your heel on the pedal. That way when your feet are in riding position(balls of your feet over the center of the pedal) you have a slight bend in the knee. I found it's an easy way to get the correct seat height so you get the most out of pedaling."thumbsup"

It can probably be raised by about an inch or so. The top tube is like an inch away from my crotch when I'm standing with it. My knee has a bend to it, but probably a bit too much of one.

I'm just used to seeing a lot of space between the seat and the top tube. Just remember, the bike shop employees are your best friends.

Fawk the standover...adjust seat for RIDING. "thumbsup" Your knees will thank you. BTW new bike looks nice!

Did 11.5 miles of MTB at Jackrabbit yesterday and had a freaking blast!. Trails were a little wet causing a few oh shit moments though LOL. I didn't run my Strava as I bought that new Garmin GPS watch, which of course failed to log anything. Damn that Murphy guy. Road biking has made a HUGE difference in my fitness level already, and I'm so glad that I got back into the sport. I'd give up moto before I gave up cycling at this point.

Here's our ride, luckily some of the guys tracked it.

That looks like a fun ride, looks like lots of elevation changes.

Not going out on the bike today, too hot (30c or 86F for people using the made-up system). I did go get a new bottle cage (woo-hoo...) and bottle, so at least I can stay hydrated and on the saddle longer, since I'm taking the bike out to the trails tomorrow. Got a good deal on a Bontrager Sideswipe RL. It sort of matches the bike, not really going for fashion lol.

There's the smile of a man that gets the same rewards out of biking as I do "thumbsup"
Recent rains had me on the road bike yesterday, actually enjoyed it. Not like MTB enjoyed it but fun none the less.

Thanks fellas! And RiceBurner, you're dead on the money. I felt great on the bike yesterday, and it's really the first long MTB ride I've had to really feel the bike out on good trails. I'm much more relaxed and loose on the bike now, and more confident.

Got road rides the next two days, including my first ride with the Wednesday group.

Yes looks nice, I ride in any weather, just not as fast when it's 100F or 30F lol. "thumbsup" Ease into the hot weather extremes though, drink plenty, eat accordingly (no cheeseburger before ride lol) and use Salt Stick or Hammer Enduralytes to maintain your electrolites. I road road Saturday and it was 95F, mowed my lawn last night at 8pm...kept waiting for it to cool off, but it never did last night. It was still 100F at 8pm. Weed eated in the dark and was soaked in sweat by the time I finished at 930pm. I even use the Salt Stick on really hot days like that when I'm working (or crawling) outside, it really helps me and I drank like six big glasses of water.

"thumbsup" Road is good and it helps your MTB ride.

Weather was really nice today, so I decided to push myself a bit. Not a lot of climbs, but it was a 30km ride downtown. I gotta say though, I never used to bike with a bottle in easy reach (was always in a backpack), it makes a huge difference. Also raised the seat a bit again, now I think it's perfect, slight bend in my leg and I feel like I get a good push out of every revolution.

This was downtown by some ball fields. The trails are hard pack dirt/small pea gravel

Nice man! I may have to consider that one. Need a little more red on my Crave to off-set all the black. Needs just a touch more color (colour for you non-spelling mofos) to it. Still don't have any good pics of it yet. Maybe in the next day or so, though. Waiting for the nearby trail to dry a little so I can ride at lunch.

Thanks man. Yeah, my bike is mostly dark metallic grey, but I got that cage because it blends with the red stripes and white lettering on mine. It was only $25 too, the shop gave me a deal on it because they know I just bought the bike a couple days before.

Yesterday's ride got cut way too short due to weather, hoping today is better but it's not looking that way. We're in that same pattern we were last year, it's rained almost every day for like 15 days now, and it's driving me nucking futs.

Maybe my local shop will hook me up too then. Course I bought mine back in February.

Some bike shops give you a discount on everything you buy after purchasing a bike from them, others occasional hook ups and well the others do nothing for you but sell you the bike.

That's when I ride more road...rain is like sweat from above lol. "thumbsup" It all evaporates in the end.

It was a road ride actually. Yesterday's storm system had up to 70mph winds, hail, and lots of ground strike lightning....no thanks. And around here, going from 85 degrees to 65 (very common after a storm) and being soaked can actually feel quite cold in cycling clothing. Living in the rain forest has it's drawbacks. I need to pick up a decent rain shell that stuffs in a jersey pocket though.
