Planning to calibrate my HH BRXL ESC today. anything i need to know before getting started?

After reading the instructions, the only think im unclear about is when it talks about not connecting a battery to the receiver? i didn't think there was one connected to the receiver, just the servo and esc.

Plugging the esc into the TX is connecting a battery in a sense. Not 100% but I'm sure YouTube has some walk throughs
