No Prep Bandit Build

Trying to keep it looking clean. Today was esc, motor, battery placement and wire runs.

The Hobbywing esc is large and takes up the majority of the electronics plate. The RX ultimately will sit behind the front tower.

Sweet, Build. Got a VXL Bandit and lct slash chassis here myself.
Won't be going that far (YET). lol
I got a bathroom to fully remodel yet. lmao

She lives!!!

Just got the electronics tested and radio setup... Body mounted at ride height. Tonight if the weather holds, it will be time to send her down the street.

I did order a 2nd higher kv motor to try as the gearing is limited on the proline 32p trans until someone figures out a suitable spur gear swap. I have a bunch of diffent ones coming and various bearings to try. 17/56 for a 5100kv motor may be OK.... May be better with a 6100kv...and an 18t pinion.

First I wanted to build it.... Then test it.... Then make her faster. Making progress. Just looking forward to trying to race on Saturday.

Bad a$$ looking Nova!

Seriously considering picking up one of these chassis’s! Pro-Line tranny on my radar too!

Long time, no see Josh, good to see you post on here again!
Thank you!!! Life kept me crazy busy between my work/travel and relocation to Nashville for work. I gave a lot of my stuff to Jeff before I moved... Kept stuff that mattered to me. No Prep is growing fast down here, so I am giving it a shot.

Barring rain, tomorrow is race day.

In prep for having to bring equipment to the location, I grabbed my rc bag to load up. What did I find?????

I found a futaba RX and a Hitex 5995tg servo (new in box!!!)

So this morning I removed the ORANGERX and Amazon servo.... And swapped them out.

The Amazon servo did not have great centering. This Hitec should hold much better.

Can’t wait to hear how that goes!

I nearly started to build one, but decided to keep at the revamp of my E-Revo (RPM goodies and some 2.0 body w/mounting parts) then get a Hoss next year.

Been looking at chassis kits. Looking at a TARP rig for a Traxxas Conversion.
Which Kit is that again?
I could look, but I'm just a lazy American. lol

Do those Graphine batteries need a special charger, or will my ancient HobbyTown and more recent Traxxas dual chargers work for those? I’ve been out of R/C for a while too and I need to get fresh batteries for my stuff and really like the pricing and sizes of their packs!

I was using my 10 year old venom lipo chargers and they were OK at max 6 amps. Lipo is lipo. Graphene is just low resistance lipo. Now I use a Flight Test charger. It still sees the new battery as just lipo. Ran it today at 10amp charge rate off the Jeep AGM battery. No issues.

Good to know, thanks Josh!

That still the same JK you bought up here years ago?

Yep... The 2013 JKU. She just grew a bit down here.

I also brought back this little one. I needed a project after the move.

I’ll bet that Miata is a lot of fun there!

I had to scrap my Jeep back in March, it sat too much, ended up finding mold and nesting materials inside and it got too rusty between the rails and rockers as well as a blown out brake line (that was fun). Still have my 200.

The No Prep is running well... Sorted out esc issues.

A buddy wants to go slash racing on Sunday (kinda run whatever) so I dug out an old slash that I built years ago that was in a tote for years.

I stepped back and was shocked at the end result difference yet both from the same DNA. PHOTOS say it all.

It is a class thing. Rules basically are:

- wheels tucked in body
- rwd
- f/r shocks
- 4.5 pounds
- 12" - 13" wheelbase
- 2 cell

It makes it all super competitive. Tune, suspension, weight distribution, ect become more important.

How close is it to 4.5 pounds? Do you need to add weight to get there?

Honestly I had not weighed it. LOL

The group here is trying to grow, so they are not weighing-in nor checking batteries for voltage.

So before this response, I weighed it. With body, it is exactly 4.5 pounds. I truly knew that it felt lightweight, and was concerned about hitting 4.5#.

She is built out of a lot of lighter materials. (Ti, CF, and AL) so aiming for a lighter build seems to yield a vehicle that hits the weight mark....not going with the lighter materials should easily be over the 4.5# mark.

EDIT - Just for a weight comparison, the larger build above is 5.6#. IT has wider eRustler arms, RPM towers Carriers, Blocks, and Bumpers...the added width is also 17mm hex adapters to support the larger 1/8 buggy wheels. The 1.1 extra pounds is easily found in the full chassis set, wheels/tires, and bumpers. The Drag car also runs a shorty pack vs a long pack in the bigger build.

What I learned from my No Prep has been applied to my Bash Slash.

Atomik Aluminum.

- Front & Rear Carriers
- Front Blocks
- Steering Bell Crank
- Bulkhead
- Front Brace
- Front Tower

And RPM parts.
- Rear Tower
- Rear Nitro Rustler Arms
- Front Wide Rustler Arms

Transmission updates are also coming to make it more like the Proline 32p trans in the drag slash.....as well as a lot more power.

A 550 4 pole 4000kv motor is getting added after the transmission work. This will be almost as much fun as the no prep.

I've still yet to own a slash yet the have the fastest time record at our local U4 track....

Good looking setup!

Plastic vs metal, do you find the metal bending/ripping in bigger crashes?

For the carriers, I get better bearing fit and steering. My front axles no longer bind. Steering links stay in place. I run heavier links not the stock thin traxxas ones.

The block is undetermined... But fits nicely with the carriers.

The bulkhead is worth it as the chassis and skids stay in place as well as the bellcrank.

With the longer arms, the RPM front tower was super flexible. The alum front tower lets the shocks work correctly.

I do prefer the RPM arms. They flex enough to protect the rest. I also retain the RPM rear tower.

I think that a blend is beneficial.
