hey guys I am new to the forum and have some questions..
I just bought a Axial Wraith used maybe 1 time from my local hobby shop it is the RTR and did not come with a charger or battery.
I was wanting to know what is the best battery to buy and what charger should I buy? I do not plan on keeping this thing stock for very long

Thanks in advance

If you've read up on caring for LiPos, and feel you can handle those, then go LiPo.
If that's just more than you'd care to deal with right now, go 7 cell NiMh (if you have the room to fit one). Huge milliamps rating aren't AS critical on LiPo, but with NiMh, go for as many mAh as you can afford.

If you choose to go LiPo, are you willing to install a BEC? A 2S LiPo should work reasonably well in a stock-ish vehicle. A 3S will put a pretty big smile on your face, but I wouldn't go 3S without a BEC. Creationfab and Holmes both sell (or have in the past) Bypass Adapters that make connecting your BEC direct to your servo a plug-n-play operation.

As far as chargers, even if you're not going LiPo right away, get a multi-chemistry charger. (ie.. Duratrax Onyx 230, 235, 245)

And Valuehobby has the best prices I've found on charging sacks.

i use 4000mah 2s lipos and i get more than an hour and a half. My nimh 3000 7.2v batteries last little more than 45 minutes. If thats plenty of run time per battery, you dont need to spend an arm and a leg on HUGE Mah rated batteries.

Changing to higher gears and using a higher turn motor (slower top speed but more torque) will make your rig more efficient and the batteries will last longer - thats what I have done on mine.

First, I would read this post about Lipo Batteries so that you understand how the terminology.

Understanding RC LiPo Batteries

I would also read the Wraith beginners guide, if you haven't already done so.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-wraith/323522-wraith-beginners-guide.html

I would also look through / search the Wraith forum and electronics forum to see what others are using for batteries and chargers.

If you start searching, you are going to find there are lots of opinions of what batteries to use and what charger. Try to pick one that lots of people use and one that fits your budget.

In my Wraith that I use for crawling a have 2300 mah 3S 35C lipo. It lasts about 50 minutes for me. I use a Hyperion 606i charger.

I run nanotech 2200mah 3s lipos in my wraith. $10 batteries for the win. Buy a castle creations 10a bec and run 3s. 2s is pretty lame. Buy the best charger you can afford and it will last you many years. I still have a Hyperion from over 5 years ago. If you buy a dc only charger don't forget you will need a power supply for charging at home. You can buy a flashy one or use an old computer power supply.
