New gearbox and gear options

You could go either way. I just figured it would be easier for people to drill holes in the tube. If you do the case, you have to counter sink the hole which I didnt assume many people would want to do.

I think that's a better way! It doesn't add holes to the case and it's mounted with four screw instead of three!"thumbsup"

so mr delux what would be tour price just for to to sell a set all done so they could just be bolted up. lets see what they would cost . this could be a great way for anyone to get into a 2.2 cheep or our they sitll going to cost a lol

just seem like the rite way to buy them instead of paying for all the shiping when some one coild just buy it all form you the first time an not have to wait all the time as well

I could not find the artr ones until you posted that link"thumbsup". I'm guessing that is just minus the radio and receiver right? I could use my 6ex and be ahead of the game lol. How are the tires on these things, anyone who has one? it may be useful to make cut'n shut exceed tires to fit 3.8 wheels. They look very similar to the j concepts tires and are only $9 a pair. Very interested in the things now. Can't wait to see how it unfolds:mrgreen:

The tires work well once broken in, they're rather hard before you break them in. My uncle cut and shut a set for 40 series and they come out to about 8 inches tall. He cut a lot out of the treads though, this I don't recommend. My stock tires with different foams work better than his.

What front shafts?
What knuckles?
What rear shafts?
What gears?

There are so many options that I cant just give a price in general.

If I were to build a set for myself:

Front
Exceed cases $2.50
Axial C $30
Bully knuckles $10
60* universal shafts $90
Berg front gears with SDS 3rds, RC bro locker $45 plus gears... $30?
Dlux tubes $75
Dlux upper link mount $15

Front axle $297

Rear
Exceed gear box $2.50
DLUX shafts $90
DLUX tubes $75
plastic gears, RC bros locker $20
Dlux upper link mount $15

Rear axle $203

Total front and rear would be close to $500. You could also knock off $30 if you wanted to use the Exceed gears over the Berg gears in the front axle.

That would make these axles the lightest, cheapest (debatable) and possibly some of the strongest all for under $500.

I know you too well Randy so let me put some more food for thought in for you and lets see how cheap we can make them.

Front
Exceed cases $2.50
Plastic XR knuckles $free
Plastic XR C $free
60* universal shafts from Wraith $35 If youre really cheap you could do stock Berg dog bones for free.
Exceed metal gears, RC bro locker, SDS 3rd $50
Stock tubes $25?
Stock Berg upper link mount $free

Front axle $113

Rear
Exceed plastic case $2.50
Stock Berg dog bones $free
Stock tubes $25?
plastic gears, RC bros locker $20
Stock Berg link mount $free

$47.5

About $160 if you wanted to be cheap and get into the hobby.

lol

Even cheaper if you have some of the parts laying around.
:)
Could be the cheapest weight loss for the berg to date. :)

Are the wraith axle shafts the same length as the mt?

Not sure. Doubt it. You would face other issues anyway.

Yeah, could be almost free if you really wanted.

I could have taken a couple things out of the cheap list but I may as well leave them in there since I am sure I forgot to add a couple of things too.

nope you all were wrong here .
i just thought it would be nice to see what they would cost is all.

i have over 500 in my xrs an i no to do a breg you have over 500

that seems like a really good way to go for a new guy

nice work delux

looking to see you beat on a set of these things

i have tubs an matt has gears an boxs an whats to try this so ill get to see just what thet will do .

with not really knowing where the xr is going this is a great op.

Nice work, many in the future will benefit from your hard work and time researching these new options, hats off to you my friend. "thumbsup"

Everything seems cool. I think I'd go all plastic just to see what they would stand up to. A sub 4lb rig would probably be OK with plastic... except for the high HP motors everyone seems to be using these days.

And even then, good throttle restraint would probably go a long way.

Erik... what do those spacers look like? Any pics?

Pretty crazy we can still molest kits like the good old days. My only fear is possible case flex. It may not be an issue, but I haven't seen a plastic housing yet that doesn't suffer from some case flex which usually always results in the gears taking a good hit. None the less, another option for those getting into the hobby!

Place your bets on the gears....

I say the rear will work with the 2nd and 3rd as plastic, not the 4th. For the front, I am going to guess just the 2nd would work, not the 3rd and 4th.

When can I get the spacers? I ordered the cases and plastic gears today. Cant wait to try this.

Farmer

Not sure. I dont want to hand make a ton of them so I will just have my CNC guy punch some out. Sometimes he is like lightning, sometimes like frozen molasses. The bright side is that they should be pretty cheap.

Yeah, I have been doing some research on these. I think its pretty crazy they have been out for close to 4yrs and nobody has made the connection. Just about every post I have read says they are just and useless.

IMO the case is over kill. I was even looking at it thinking after it proves itself that I would shave some material and see how much more can be lost. In the motor mount area its 6mm thick  With the cases in half, I can flex it slightly, with them as whole cases, I cannot flex the case at all.

There is always hope, plus sounds like something fun to try:flipoff:

Something tells me my first CNC project will be a throttle stop for Farmer. LOL

I'm really wondering about the strength of the plastic gears..
Will the weight savings be worth the loss in stength...

How much of a loss of strength is there? If it were a 3.5mm vs. 3.5mm gear I am not sure they would be worth testing at all. With a 6mm wide gear.... who knows.

Oh, also, if youre planning on running the plastic gears, you will need to run the MT small gears. If you run Berg gears youre still only going to get 3.5mm worth of engagement. By the pics on the MT website, it looks like those small gears are only good for 3.5mm also but I can only assume they are really good for 6mm?

The mad scientist is at it like always. Great job Erik on keeping the doors open for people. This and your customer service is what makes you the top vendor on this forum. Great job man.
