I just saw this Carisma ESC pop up on RPP

From the looks I though it was an ESC meant for a mini. I didn't really think anything of it at first but specs wise it looks close to a 1080 and surprisingly it doesn't seem like a rebrand.
It can be set to a crawler mode or a race/bash mode (reverse lockout).
The 3 amp BEC probably isnt gonna cut it for most but I wouldn't expect more out of such a small package.
Its programmable with very similar options as the 1080
60 amp continuous compared to the 1080's 80 amp rating
Price point is right there with the 1080 too.

I like the form factor with the wires coming out the side instead of straight up, it should fit into tight spaces.
I dont see much of a heat sink anywhere, maybe the base is aluminum? EDIT: the description says the case is aluminum

Anyway I though nothing of this at first but after reading through the description I was a bit intrigued (not the first paragraph written by a used car salesman though lol :lmao:).

The video of it in action isnt amazing but I'm hoping thats down to the Carisma they're driving and the driver rather than the ESC.

I assumed this may just be something out of an RTR but it sounds like its all new. heres a long rundown from their team driver:

It's interesting.

The size is very comparable to the 1080, according to the specs on RPP, so I'm not sure why the size would be much of an advantage.

1080: 36.5mm (L) x 32mm (W) x 18mm (H)
ARC-2: 41mm (L) x 33mm (W) x 22mm (H)

still only 3s

Never understood that need of more than 3s on trucks designed to be run on 2s. I can understand it for a basher or on-road that are build to speed and to handle harsh use, but to trail or crawl ? when do you need that kind of power that most likely will break parts not designed to handle it ?

2s is enough for most, 3s provides the little more grunt you'd need to pass where you shouldn't because you didn't install a winch and helps on autonomy, but unless you double the weight of your truck with brass instead of tuning it and accepting it's capabilities, there's no need for more.

I really like getting rid of the switch when I can too. Does it unplug somehow? I haven't seen this feature listed anywhere.

I think what he's referring to is that the switch on the Carisma ESC is a simple 2 wire affair unlike the HW 1080 which is 4 wires and programmed using the button next to the on/off switch and due to this it cant be removed.

The manual will never mention this but removing a 2 wire switch is as simple as cutting off the switch and connecting the wires, this will make the ESC turn on immediately when a battery is connected.

Poor Frank's going to get a complex, we all ignored when he first posted on this guy last year.

We're sorry, Frank! :)

It looks especially interesting as HW 1080's become scarcer and scarcer...

Ah, should have known. I instantly thought of the Mamba X and it's replaceable wire harness. I really like that feature because I like to pluck the fan leads out, shorten the receiver lead, and snip the switch off...always nice to be able to install a new one when needed.

What makes you say it's a HobbyWing item? Please provide proof of that.

Also, it's the same price as the HobbyWing 1080.

Well, if the manufacturer says it's their own design, who am I to argue? I stand corrected on the price. I still see no reason to buy this over the 1080.

Thanks for sharing that! "thumbsup"

I think it's worth it to try for the same price as a 1080.
