My Bomber Build

Just got home from vacation today and picked up a DX5C with the 4 channel SR415 receiver. Figured I'd never use AVC on my Bomber, and didn't necessarily need the 5th channel the AR6000 comes with.

Tested it to make sure it worked.

It was really easy to set endpoints with, I really like the simple screen readouts, they help a lot. Got shift and Aux set up on their own channels and fully functional.
Going to see if I can get a mix working so I can run them together, but I am enjoying them on their own channels for more versatility.

After setting it up I waterproofed the receiver with silicone conformal coating and have everything back together, just in time to do some crawling this weekend!

So my breaklights have stopped functioning properly now since upgraded to the Spektrum receiver.
Not sure if it is related or not.

They just flash in neutral instead of light up solid. No amount of trim in either direction fixes it. I checked with HeyOk and that is what he said to check was the throttle trim. I tried to google and search the forums for similar issues but no luck.

Awesome build. Love all the detail you put in it.

Thanks Smokee.

Still plenty of flex with the VP Currie Anti-rock rear swaybar.

Made a 550 cord lanyard for my radio

In with an update/current affairs post. I was bored of not having parts to install so I ordered Incision spools, and Vanquish gears (my rear end is about to go out, I can hear it making funny noises when rotating at certain points)

2 speed is working great. DX5C is great. Wiring is done nice and neat, I can access my castle link by just removing the passenger side body panel.

I had gripes about how all the rod ends/links are sloppy. I thought to my self "why don't RC cars have bushings like real cars? What can I use as bushings?"

DING lightbulb.

I'm a pretty hardcore PC nerd. I own 5 mechanical keyboards ranging from $115 Logitechs you can get a Best Buy, to $350 custom builds with all switches hand soldered by me.

Cherry switch keyboard o-rings are used to limit switch travel and quiet down the switch clack of bottoming out the keys when pressed.
I already had plenty extra clear ones lying around so I tried them out, liked them, and ordered thicker blue ones from WASD gaming.
They are made of EPDM rubber.

WASD Keyboards Cherry MX Rubber O-Ring Switch Dampeners (125pcs) - Keyboard Accessories - Products

I installed them at every link location, 1 or 2 per link depending on what was needed. I also installed them on the steering, it takes the up and down flop out of of the link that goes from left to right knuckle nicely.

As you can tell from my skid plates, my Bomber gets drove pretty hard on the rocks \m/

Considering some Rock Beasts and Crawler Innivation Double Dueces soft foams for the from and medium for the rear. But I really need to quit putting off that VP Stage One kit...

Last but not least, picked up a storage tote for transportation to and from, that will keep the dirt from getting into the 1:1 afterwards, and ammo can for lipo storage( I also have a lipo bag)

You need to ditch the axial rod ends for vanquish RPM rod ends with axial width brass balls. No more slop.

I don't think I have any axial rod ends, I'm using all the ends that Vanquish/incision links came with. But I do not have the brass ball ends. Are they any wider?

Got bored, ordered gear upgrades
Incision Spool x2
Incision AR60 43/13 Gear Set
Incision AR60 38/13 Gear Set
Axial Steel Spur Gear 32P 64T

Guess I'm going to leave my driveshafts as the weakest link. Pros/Cons?

Yes the brass balls are axial width, the VP link stainless balls are à little narrower

Now the real question.

Black or Clear Anodized VP Curries, Rockjocks or F9's?

I'm leaning clear F9's.

I hate to sound like a dumby but, I removed my stock diff gear and spool and installed the Incision 38/13 and spool in the rear, and now my axle lockouts won't screw back into place, they are ever so slightly too far out now and will not slide in any farther..... neither sides screws will go back in. Was I not suppose to reuse that little gasket(ax30385) between the ring gear and spool that was on the Axial set? that's the only thing I can think of.

I had the same issue after putting an Incision spool in an SSD diamond axle for my Bomber. I got the lockout on but a screw is a bit off and I'm questioning the spool's "precision" I'm going to try a GripFab or Locked Up RC spool instead. So far I've never had a problem with either of those.

Yeah... kinda questionable isn't it.

I guess I'm going to rotate my lockers and tap new holes in a new position. But kind of silly that I have to do that on a 'drop in' part.

I have not installed the front gears/spool yet so I do not know if the c-hub holes line up or not, but that will be problematic because they aren't as easily rotated for new holes.

I used FI Spools on both diffs along with Lockedup rc shim kits.

No issues but without the shims there was binding all over.

Luckily my front axle was fine everything lined up but i probably won't buy Incision spools again when better ones are only a few dollars more.

Yeah I wish I knew about them before I ordered these.

I don't understand what you are doing with the shims and what they have to do with the spool. I can understand on the pinion gear maybe.

edit: nevermind I think I see now, one axle goes through the ring gear into the spool, the other into the spool itself.

Yeah I'm going to test my other spool for fitment also before proceeding. If the other fits the front I'm good. I'm not messing with the front chubs and axle tubes.

I'm going to take the rear back apart and try it without the AX30385 gasket. That might take out enough thickness between the gear and the spool to give me that extra .2mm I need for my lockout screws. Working til 11pm so I will update later.

Dont use the gaskets with aftermarket spools.

I covered these issues in my build thread. I had to redo my diffs 3 times to get the mesh smooth enough.

You should find more info about the FI spools and shims in there too.

Thanks! I will dig through your build thread.

Ordered the clear/silver VP stage 1 kit, used card points. $25 shipped on amazon \m/
Guess I decided to build clear/silver axles.
