Absolutely unbelievable. I saw pics of your truck in another thread you had posted in and I thought it was a 1:1. Outstanding."thumbsup"

Not to sure Stu, on my 4runner it attaches to the core support, I am guessing its the same? I have only seen 2, maybe 3 real Hilux up close EVER..and one of them did come into my dealer but never thought of taking those type of pics...guess I should have. In this pic it looks like the grill is all one pc? Maybe Dean/chino63 can provide some insight.

The grill is one complete piece, the front core support has clips that the grill attaches onto with.

On my first gen these clips are all but broken apart, so now black zip ties hold it on "thumbsup" Luckily you can't see them

hey 1bjb, my 79 hilux was just like the blue one, the grill and the headlight rings are 3 different pieces.. if you where to take the fender of on one it would look just like the one you have built for the 1:10 version.. the rings bolt onto the grill as well onto the core support...hope this helps... i can maybe snap some pics of mine tomarrow for you"thumbsup"

Sorry but Blake is right (and i'm not agreeing with him because we have the same name LOL!)

Actually the first and second gen's both had 3 piece grills. Here is a pic showing how the 1st gens separated.

I have tons of detailed pics of 1:1 1st gen toys that i'm using for my aluminum body Toy, if you need any let me know. "thumbsup"

It's hard to say but this may be your best build. I can see it inspiring along of build, I know it did mines"thumbsup" I don't wanna get bashed for saying anything but I think a U-bolt kit would look good. Awesome work....the next one has to top this.

It absolutely needs a u bolt flip kit, but they are kinda pricey and I just got my bill for the shafts on the real Runner so they are going to have to wait :| . This build is far from done...I still have some tricks up my sleeve

Mike, at first I wasn't sure this was gonna top the AT, but you proved me wrong. Incredible work my friend!

Well, the those are light buckets not a grill lol. The grill is one piece

I love how clean this build was. I really like your tire carriers. I like how you made nut reversed, and the whole rod screws into the rim. Nice build, truck looks stout..

Well I graduated from the academy last week so now my life can go back to normal and with the winter upon us here in NY its time to get my build on again  I have several builds to finish up this winter, and now that the sammy is done its time to finish up the blue lux.

I finally went out and picked up a weathering/rusting kit from Michaels. I had ordered the "Rustall" kit but it SUCKED and the paints were so watery they didnt stick to anything. With the kit from Michaels its actual real rust which is awesome. I practiced on my Proline accessories 1st to get a feel for it 1st

After having good results I moved onto the spare of the truck

After that I decided to break out the scotch bright and hit the entire body to dull it down and I used some motor clean on a rag to burn down to the primer

bluelux018-3.jpg

I then started applying the rust to the faded through areas

This was my 1st attempt at weathering, I think it came out well. Some may feel its a little excessive but it is a Toyota from the east coast :ror: Plus I had to make it seem haggered with the missing fender and all. I am also going to add some dents too, was letting everything dry fully before I do that.

Next up is some disc brakes with calipers, brake lines, and a few other finishing touches then this thing will be officially DONE

Thanks for looking
-Mike
